I'm afraid I was deliberately irritating in my last post, I wasn't in a particularly good mood.
I don't especially want to move to America either. But then again, I am clearly so dedicated to my subject that all I'll want to do while there is spend time working on things with the Finest Minds in the World so the culture and everything else won't matter

Sure, but by that logic you'd be justified to charge an arbitrarily high price on everything that has any kind of effect on other people.
I don't actually think that it's a good situation for only rich people to be able fly around. I would quite like to fly to far away places sometime. But unless you actually ration flying, having expensive flights is (until they reinvent the jet engine) a way to help save the planet. Or at least that's the impression I had.
As for Zoe's situation, I'm entirely unfamiliar with all aspects of the languages courses but I think that if your course requires you to go abroad they should give you enough funding for you to go abroad (and enough that you can do something non-crappy. and let you come back for Christmas (or some important event)). But then that might open up too many cans of worms.
Don't expect anyone to read this, just monologuing a bit
Sheez.. drama!

I didn't notice

I don't know what precise thing you're directing your sarcasm at.
I am not looking forward to this post-Fordism essay I have to write after brunch.
But before that, I need to go to Sainsburys. I hope they open quickly @ 11.
Quick reminder to everyone that the Downing Open Mic night is tomorrow at 9! If you want, we could all meet at the Plodge at the Regent Street entrance @ quarter to?

My throat is swollen.
Oh, I was just being silly. I do hate the prices of flights because it will mean cutting myself off in my year abroad, but it's not the biggest deal in the world - hopefully I'll be working for a big firm who'll pay me anyway so I should have lots of money
In terms of language courses though, they give us zero funding for our year abroad. In your other years at Cambridge you get two faculty grants to study abroad, but we've been warned that after this year they'll only exist in a severely reduced form, and they weren't exceptionally big to start with. I'm lucky in that my college gives me lots of money, but they still don't give us anything for the year abroad. I still have to pay half tuition fees to the university but am only entitled to something like 6 hours of supervisions. I think I get a bigger loan, but that's not going to cover all that much, so I'm having to get a paying job in order to self fund.
Urgh, I'm so tired...got woken up by NHSdirect calling me. I rang them last night because my friend (visiting from another college) had what Google tells me is called unilateral facial paralysis. Numbness and paralysis on one side of her face...she couldn't smile or blink on that side. I got her to do the second of the stroke tests, lifting your arms, but she could do that fine and wasn't slurring her words, so it probably wasn't a stroke. But when I Googled her symptoms, it said there were three main causes in adults: a stroke, Bell's Palsy, and a brain tumour...so we panicked a little bit! Rang NHSdirect, they got her to do a load of tests, looking in the mirror and trying to move that side...determined it wasn't urgent, and said they'd ring back in the morning.
Stupidly I gave them my number
Just looked up Bell's Palsy...apparently it can be caused due to an inflammation of the facial nerve. She's been on Tamiflu since Tuesday, which makes me think it might be a reaction to it...I was watching the Occam's Razor episode of House yesterday (which obviously makes me an experienced doctor), which basically revolves around the fact that getting two separate conditions at the same time is so unlikely, they're probably linked...

That is really unlucky.
If you googled Bell's Palsy you should have seen that the cause is believed to be the irritation of the facial nerve is caused by a virus. They also say its most likely to be Herpes Simplex(any signs of cold sores?) but like meningitis most viruses probably can have the same effect (last bit is me speculating). It also says the virus can lie dormant in the nerves and then activate, which may explain the delay.
No, as I said it was so tame. Nobody finished their wine, nobody would down their wine when I pennied them. I also 5p-d 3 people and nobody would do it...

they sound like unwashed cocks of the highest order. i've been on swaps where people have pennied themselves; have they not realised the entire point is to get drunk?

Exactly! It was so tame it was unbelievable. Really not any craic at all like! Then someone had the cheek to penny me after they wouldn't do it themselves! I still did it anyways

i'd expect nothing less of you.
p.s. how many formal tickets (for guests) is each trinitarian allowed to book?
