Errmm...I've not been to many other college bars so I can't comment too well, but it seems alright. Gets busy easily, and I think it's one of, if not the most expensive college bar. Best to maybe bring some drinks and have em after if you're looking for a cheaper price like.
Ah, expensive . Think I'll probably just see what's happening in Caius bar and then head along around 9ish.
I still haven't been to any other college's formals! I want to go to Magdalene, I have a friend there who says it's completely candlelit, really Harry Potter
From what the boys were saying, it seems like the aim of a swap is to get very very drunk and bring an equal number of very very drunk girls and very very drunk boys into close proximity. But we had formal at John's, where you only get 3 glasses of wine, so no-one got much more than tipsy there, then by the time we got to their bar, everyone had kind of drifted off.
My friend went to a swap at Clare (I think...possible Churchill...their fancy dress was "Something beginning with C") and ended up downing a bottle of wine in about half an hour, and having to be carried back to John's at 9 because he couldn't walk. Absolute mess. I don't understand how anyone could enjoy being that drunk! Same with all the rugby and football sessions - why would you want to get so drunk that you're throwing up, then drink some more?! I mean, I'm not teetotal by any means, I'm currently nursing a hangover (or possibly still slightly drunk), but there are only 3 occasions when I've thrown up from drinking, and two of them don't really count
This is very true, which is why swaps are very entertaining. One of my friends decided to tell Murray Edward's girls "you are all lesbians" Really though it is very entertaining. Though, only 3 glasses of wine at John's.
As for downing the bottle of wine in half an hour, that is average to be fair. In fact its normally less than half an hour as the bottle is usually gone half way through the starter. As for being so drunk till you throw up, its not fun, but that much wine shouldn't do it. I would only feel sick after that much wine is I still don't like the taste very much
Whenever I finish a bottle of wine really bad things happen. This is widely known amongst my friends. I've only done it three times and it's never within half an hour. Although I think the problem may be that once I'm most of the way through a bottle of wine if we get to the bar after formal I start buying lots of vodka and think that shots are a good idea. And I'm just a lightweight (literally)
For anyone who's coming to Downing tonight for the Open Mic, it starts at 9ish.
I'll probably be in the bar from 8:45ish, so if you see someone with medium length dark hair, wearing blue jeans and a beige/light blue check shirt, come and say hello!
I'd like to warn everybody in advance that either tomorrow or Thursday you may see a couple of idiots wandering around with a video camera in central Cambridge, one of them dressed in a suit holding various cardboard cutouts. This is a somewhat unusual birthday plot for a friend, and does have a purpose.
(In case you hadn't guessed, I'll be one of those unfortunates).
EDIT: update on the guy that shares my kitchen; apparently, it's okay to store raw sausages in the same Tupperware container as cheese, while leaving this on a surface in a warm kitchen for several hours.

Why is being a lightweight sad face? It's much cheaper
Not particularly; I'd feel guilty trying to blag free rides off people.
Just realised that I forgot to reply to this. I don't think I am going to to go it this year, but I plan to try it some year. I am just worried about getting somewhere ridiculous and having to pay a stupidly large amount to get back

one of my friends flew back from belgium which cost him 200quid last year. one tactic is to book cheap flights back from a few places like paris and cologne a few weeks in advance (while its still <£10 ) then once you're on the road you can aim for one of them.

How exactly did he manage to get to Belgium for free in 36 hours? Someone told me someone managed to beg a flight to Japan once, though I doubt it

Getting to the near continent doesn't seem to be that hard most people manage it in about 24hours. Basically one hitches out of cambridge to the motorway (v. hard) once on the motorway its a case of hitching from service station to service station to get to dover then find someone who'll let you in their car for the ferry crossing (seems to be worryingly easy) and once in france, just hitch for all your worth to spread out across europe. Anyhow i must stop dallying and get on with learning the 69 drugs i have to know by tomorrow (change subjects before second year- its horrific!)

I think the aim should be a way of finding a way onto a flight to America
69 drugs for tomorrow? I am guessing this wasn't just set today? Also, pharmacology? I have been told 2nd year is dreadfully hard for medicine. Slightly worrying as I already don't like the amount of learning in anatomy
I just had a lecture on Modernity in Spanish literature and my lecturer talked about hair for 10 minutes. Sometimes I really do love this place. I think the highlight was the quote:
'¿Te acuerdas cuando quería que me disciplinases con la madeja de tu pelo?' 'Do you remember when I wanted you to discipline me with the whip of your hair?'
That was just so wrong! Have you actually read Sonata de otono? Because that bit is actually fairly mild compared to some of the stuff that goes on in that book. It was so funny trying to write an essay on it

Pharmacology is/was fun! (I think the full drug list was around 300 drugs...) Though most of my friends would disagree...
2nd year is definitely hard simply because of the sheer amount of stuff you need to know... but at the same time it's definitely interesting.

Now that I know who you share with my I find this highly amusing.
So you know I posted a while ago saying I was going to buy food? Well eating gave me really bad, and I mean really bad, stomach cramps and I've been in bed asleep ever since, oh and now my library books are over due and unread.

But I've got to live with it .
Not ideal, though. I've been taken out a few times by illness this term.
Unrelated, but have you seen if the DoS interview times are up in the undercroft yet?

Not as bizarre as the afternoon lecture - 'something I should point out here, the dog was female, and before he killed it he was sitting stroking the gun between his legs...' Whyy, just whyyyyy??
No, I haven't read it, not made it as far as Modernity yet! We're still on Prescriptions of Gender. I look forward to it though
