I think it's just generally not a good idea to be posting stuff about university staff publicly on here.

Obviously, but "not allowed" is putting that a bit strangely.

Alright, although I'm considering switching to maths A next term. The B course is a little too fast paced and confusing...

To be honest the course isn't that bad, it's the lecturer who is awful. Doesn't explain enough and skips steps in working. Mind you, I've only made it to about half the lectures so I deserve to be confused ;o

New Moon was utterly crap! But in such a clicheed, predictably hilarious way. The entire audience groaned and guffawed as the 'plot' unfolded, and the chests were exposed at every opportunity. Great fun.

I thought it was hilarious. Best line was easily 'omg, what a marshmallow'. I haven't come out of a film feeling that good in a long time :p:

Ah, I can understand that. I was referring mainly to the 'ribbon' interface, but even then with tongue firmly in cheek.
Ribbon interface? Whassat :lolwut: If you mean the general layout, I found Word 2007 a million miles better. Word 97/03 took me years to be familiar with and even then I still had to refamiliarise myself with certain tasks that I didn't perform regularly. Word 2007 was instantly accessible.

No it isn't. I don't know if its written into the TSR rules, but it is certainly a TSR policy not to allow certain types of information to be disclosed on the site, and that is one of them.
I'm pretty sure TSR would have had contact with the University beforehand which may have inspired the policy. But it may just be a general preference on our part to be cautious.
As I said beforehand, several academics check TSR quite thoroughly during the interview period, and I know that my college Arts Admissions Tutor had people discussing him and gossiping about him (both applicants and current students) in the Peterhouse thread, and our Admissions Secretary read all of it and wasn't impressed.
If you're asking what not allowed means in practice, then it basically means we'll edit out any name mentions we find, and if a user persists in disclosing that type of information after being asked not to, they might be warned.
Can we not access Athens journals online? We're not on the list of universities unless I'm being thick :frown:

You must be the only person on the face of the planet who prefers 2007!

I infinitely prefer it :p: It persuaded me to actually pay for it and switch from OO.

I think we used to be with them and stopped somewhere along the line. But I could be wrong. Apparently its still possible to access their stuff indirectly, but I have no luck each time I try.

Just been to see Twilight: New Moon. The most (unintentionally) hilarious film I've seen for a long time! Plus there was lots of gratuitous male toplessness...

I had the same thing with the first one, thought it was one of the funniest films I'd seen in a long time, but I did see it very drunk. Did you have angry 15 year old girls glaring at you every time you giggled?

Open Office?
That's also crap :grumble: Or at least the version on my college hubby's laptop when I had to borrow it for an essay was...

Balls :frown: I really want to read a cool psychoanalysis article so that I can pretend that I'm clever when I write this essay that's due in at 9 :frown:

Agree with all that, and I agree posting "I was interviewed by Dr X: what a ******" is ill-advised, I just have a general bee in my bonnet that rules in online communities should be formed from community consensus over what's acceptable, not by what someone running the site dictates.

Really? I think he's pretty good and the lecture notes are really thorough and nice to follow.

Thank you  Have found some other stuff now so you don't have to try too hard. I might give my mum a ring and ask if I can use her OU account, just hope she's still awake!

EDIT: Success with the mother, hurrah

You what?? I find the notes almost impossible to follow and they're quite poorly organised. No summarys, topics are spread out which makes finding equations difficult (especially in the vectors section iirc).

Not sure if that would work. IIRC maths A and B do some stuff in different terms and in a slightly different order, so you could end up missing whole topics if you switch at this point. Can't remember if it's both the same in michaelmas though, so it could be ok.

My DoS said it's fine to drop down. I'm gonna review my maths over christmas and see how confused I still am with certain topics, with a view to dropping down if I don't get it.

I think 'not allowed' accurately sums up the nature of the circumstances. I was merely describing them in answer to your challenge. Not trying to defend or discuss them. If you want to do that, there's AAM and About.

Personally I don't have any issues with it. In my experience of TSR (I don't know about other forums, but they are generally alot smaller and can be managed differently, and also populated by a hell of alot less juvenile idiots) none of the rules inconvenience anybody in any way that I see as worth griping or caring about. People who try to change them are often more concerned with a principle such as 'freedom' or 'rights' on their own grounds but not in relation to what's implementable or practical on a website with 40,000+ users and a team of 50 volunteer mods. Another thing is that other websites aren't in the public eye as much as TSR is. We're often in the news and we often have Universities contacting us as well as exam boards. So alot of the measures in place are there to satisfy demands from outside. An example is the swear filter and removing offensive/adult images which we have because TSR would be blocked on school computers if we didn't.

I'm fairly happy to (a) abide by TSR rules (b) enforce them. If you want to change the system you can moan in AAM or About.

I think B to A is ok because B squeezes in multiple integrals in michaelmas which A do in lent. Otherwise the syllabus is similar (except for the extra B material that A never do). But A to B you would have missed not only the juicy B-only bits but also the whole of multiple integrals.
