No way. My holidays are sacred. I suppose it helps that I knew all along that I wanted to enter academia, so don't have to bother with work experience and crap. And I get full bursary, so no need for money at present. In fact I'm saving alot of it to fund the MPhil. I do tend to work in holidays, but not nearly as much as I should/could
I think this Christmas will be different though.

I wish I didn't have to work for the money, but sadly I do so I just get on with it. I am used to working anyways. I have worked since my GCSE's so it won't be anything new.

As for actual uni work, sadly I do feel quite out of my depth in anatomy, and do need to learn for my mocks after Christmas so I will just do the necessary. I do intent on going out back at home though.

I know the feeling. I did part time work from 15-18 in South Africa, and after moving here I worked part time at Wetherspoons for two and a half years along side work at a community centre, and cleaning. In my gap year I was full time at Wetherspoons for 6 months, then I did two months working at a ski resort, two months in an office and another two in a restaurant. By the end of that I hated employment so much I honestly can't bear the thought anymore. I think if I wasn't getting bursary money I'd find a way to live on a tight budget just to avoid it.

Muahaha! I just bought four more Discworld novels on the Oxfam online second hand book shop for an average of £2 each :king1: Luckily they'll probably only arrive after my last essay :ninja2:
Last essay of the term complete... :awesome:

Now for bed...

Bah. I ought to go to bed in order to be up reasonably early to start my last essay of term :shifty:

*tries to find more procrastination*

Yeah that's similar to what my plans are for this Christmas. I have a job waiting for me each Christmas when I go home, in the GAME store I used to work in. I will work about 30hours per week, then do all my revision outside of that to catch up on anatomy and try to learn it all to make next term better. I will then try and fit in some spare time to do other things... :frown:

I'm the same, gonna be working 25-30 hours a week (with the possibility of more) but I have loads to catch up on. Even more now due to missing quite a few lectures this week because I felt too rough to go out, and because even when I'm well, I fall asleep.

I guess it's an advantage that I don't have that many friends at home to tempt me with going out!

I find that story even stranger considering the discussion about grading curves last night...inevitably some people aren't going to get 2.1s, I guess Peterhouse just expect those people to be at other colleges...

Absolutely

Are you now in Education second or first year? I might be doing my research at the same time as you are, which means we can compare notes :five:

By the way, if you have time after your NewMuseumSite lecture you're welcome to pop by for tea or coffee (I live opposite to our hall)

2nd year  so will be dissertating next year

I'm just off to the faculty now, will you be in at about 11?

 I have a load of friends looking me to crash at their flats/halls on the week I come back to go out for a few nights. Cant say I am complaining too much though :p:

Craggy, your book is REALLY big! I can't make tea post lecture sadly, I'm of to lunch with me best friend (I've like not seen her since Wednesday :eek3:).

My physics supervision has been cancelled this afternoon. I now have to squeeze in 4 supervisions in one week gerrrrrrrr.

What have they done now? :frown:
I have a distinct suspicion that the supervision this afternoon is going to be horrendous.

1) This supervisor insists on us coming to the supervisions ideally without any questions at all.
2) He insists on seeing our work and criticising our handwriting (apparently)
3) I have done no work
4) He expects me to have done two examples papers which I haven't started
5) The supervision was on Wednesday, with very short notice, so my supervision partner rearranged it. He was not impressed that she hadn't done the work, so I emailed him telling him that I hadn't done it either, to share the blame between us. Unfortunately I have been informed by others that it was a "ukebert email" and that he is not impressed.
6) It is structures and I can't do structures.

Yeh but that's not talent either. Somebody could be extraordinarily talented but have just entered that subject in its most competitive year making him relatively less so (although concretely still highly talented)

this never happens though. lot of stupid people in cambridge.

If that were true then it wouldn't be talent that was being recognised anymore than hard work. As it is I disagree with your generalisation. Its certainly true that there are lots of average intelligence students in Cambridge (although I don't think they're 'stupid') but I've certainly seen examples of year groups (or college groups) with extraordinarily high talent and aptitude for a subject outshining other - also very good - students. One of the obvious issues at Cambridge is that 'exam skills' are not synonymous with 'brilliance at subject'.
Furthermore, I think there are plenty of examples of talent and hard work, or one of these, paying off. I can't comment on my 'talent', but I have worked relatively hard in the past, and I had a first last year.

I was, but sleeping :o: I'll come and collect it off of you. Just my luck that it would be the fat one; all the other books I found on the topic were really thin  But then that's also why its such a key text, it has different chapters by different people and several of those were on the reading list...

So did we :shifty: And once again I'm coming this close to emailing them asking them to stop writing about 'Peterhouse college!!!! :banghead:
