Does anyone have a DAB radio? If so, how is the reception here?
Reply 7861
I can sell you a whole guide (160 page magazine) about if it you like :p:

edit: on Monday I can provide a more useful answer. But as I understand it in general DAB = lower quality / higher compression than FM, has weaker/poorer signal strength, and is being replaced by internet streaming radio anyways. It's a failed technology, only continuing to exist because our bureacratic rulers have a lot tied up in it.

You're only forced to use it if in one of those areas that had migrated to digital ('FM-switchover').

Ahhah. Didn't realise it had a higher compression. One of the ones I'm looking at also streams internet radio and has access to listen again features (Pure Siesta Flow), but the one on top of my list (Siesta) lacks the WiFi capability.

I think I might just stick to my original plan (and budget of <£30!) and get a decent FM-radio/alarm clock. I am having issues getting up in the morning and find I'm spending too much money getting a newspaper every day to catch up with the news. I'm not a fan of reading stuff online (call me old fashioned!). I think a clock-radio tuned to Radio 4 might kill a few birds.
It could be lupus
You did something horribly wrong :yep: I ran out of 20 pennys last week on a swap :frown:

Yeah, the girl I was sitting next to only had one glass, then people pennied my empty glass until the bottle was empty, then did a few more filling from their own bottles :frown:

Just met another Trinity medic, can't remember his name but he's Northern (Middlesbrough?).
Right, that's half of my Stats assignment written up - time for coffee methinks.

I'm getting impatient for my new laptop now.
I asked for a quote on how much extra they'd charge me if I got a Dell instead of the Toshiba they offered. I expect its going to be a silly price, and I'll go for the Toshiba. Now I wish I didn't ask for the quote, as I've delayed its dispatch by three or four days.

The college laptop I'm on is functional its just ugly and I really hate XP :shifty:

Also, how is Windows 7 everyone? How much of an adjustment will it be after Vista?

I haven't tried it myself yet but from what I've heard it's pretty much the same as Vista in terms of the interface, yet more stable in terms of the backend.
I went to see the Selwyn freshers play tonight. It was really good . It's a shame it only ran for 2 days.

Hahah, actually I wasn't coming just for the delivery. I'm part of the Emma Fusion group which meets on Friday nights. So it was just handy timing in that sense. And feel free to pay back whenever's convenient as long as you remember.

One of the girls in Fusion was at the Hustings tonight running for your position! She made our meeting but was a bit late. (Yvonne)

Ahhh, makes sense  Well thank you anyway! And yeah, she was a good candidate and also a generally wonderful person  It was the most contested position in college this year - four candidates!
One more question to go tonight.
:woo: Just finished my penultimate piece of work this year! However, this one is due in on Wednesday, and I've been putting off doing the other one which is due in on Monday. Looks like it'll have to be a final all-nighter on Sunday. :s-smilie:

The all-nighters have been self-inflicted. I haven't done much work in the last few days at all, and the work I did tonight I could have left for Monday or Tuesday next week but it was Maths so I'd rather do that than the first (and only) essay I've been set this term. And even for that there may only be an all-nighter because I've got badminton, football and Christmas Formal tomorrow, as well as having a friend visit from home and then badminton (and possibly also squash) on Sunday. None of this would be an issue if I had finished it on Tuesday when I started it.

Anyway, I need to be up for badminton at 10am so night all.

Basically, its a hell of a lot better, and I didn't find Vista that bad :yy:

The main thing to get used to is the revamped taskbar. Instead of having tabs showing what programs are open, it has icons for each program, which are highlighted if they are running. You can "pin" programs to the taskbar, so they are always there for easy access, and if you hover over an open program's icon, it will show you a small preview of the open window. This may take a bit of time to get used to, but it is very nice.

The other changes are pretty small - it runs a lot faster, which is a noticeable change on my laptop. The search function actually works, and there are some other little things, such as if you drag a window to the side of the screen, it automatically resizes to half the screen size - useful for comparing two pages etc.

So, I have a puncture. I'm vaguely aware that the first step in sorting this out is to remove the wheel from the bike, but the brakes seem to be in the way...

1) Have a fixed address - not really applicable for international students
2) Be on the electoral roll - still not really for international students
3) Have lots of savings
4) Took out loans before and paid them back on time

Hmmm. Well, certainly 1 is a problem, and I've never had any loans before, but I am on the electoral roll and have lots of savings...

That's good news. Thanks guys. Its the interface I care most about. The tab change sounds a bit annoying, but if its only one thing then adjusting shouldn't be too disorientating.

Ah thats really bad. Any wander you had so many pennys afterwards.

Yeah, I know who that is. I'll PM you his name. He is our whipping boy, as he is a hilarious target. e.g. he always straightens his hair before going out so we always say he is going on the pull. Was hilarious at the Murray Ed's swap when I told them he was on the pull
