Hmm, does anyone know what the accepted etiquette is when it comes to giving presents to supervisors?

I wasn't aware that this was instituted enough to even have etiquette ... I've certainly never done it. What's the context?

If it says "NO" under "Released" then this means that the supervisor has submitted your report and it is ready, but your DoS has either not got round to checking it and "releasing" it for your eyes, or he/she does not want you to see it before your end-of-term DoS meeting.

Depends very much on the supervisor and subject and so on. In general, people probably don't give presents, but there are many exceptions.

Ah, then I can probably expect it soon, then, since he strongly suggested we read them in preparation. Thanks.

Someone was going to give something to a really good supervisor, which isn't a stupid idea really, so I was wondering if it was common or not. Guess not :p:
I've never given anything to a supervisor. One wonderful supervisor gave all his supervisees gifts when we finished our first year though, with little personalised notes saying how he was proud of our acheivements! Very sweet. I miss him, he was a great supervisor.

It would never occur to me, is all. I've certainly been given things by supervisors (tea, unpublished papers, and so on), but not the other way around. It's a strangulated gift economy.

4 supervisions, 5 lectures, 2 practicals

Three more days in GP, a day of ethics, three reports, and a week of lectures/seminars (0800-1800)

My DoS hasn't released any of my reports since...Lent 2006.
Anyone know if theres anywhere where you can get parking for 24-48 hours?

On street parking on Cranmer road opposite Selwyn, and Adams road near Robinson.

This is assuming you mean free parking. Those roads are a little dangerous in terms of car crime, but I've parked there for years with no issues.

OoO thanks! I'll have a look in Oxfam.

And can I just walk into the Grad Cafe (I assume that's the one in the grad pad by the river) or do i need a card of some sort? I have an alumni card but that's it. And how late is it open?
Open to anyone (including asian tourists ) and 9-9 every day other than bank holidays.

I really like the bright red tech top you passed on to me. It is admittedly quite a lurid colour, but it works well, and its great for winter training!

There's definitely something to support the notion that, when doing sports, it's okay to look utterly ridiculous. Anyway, I'm not going riding today; I'm still feeling weak after this weekend, and don't think that it'll do much good. Tomorrow looks like a safer bet.
I know how you feel. I was going to gym tonight but now I'm shaking with tiredness :frown:

The Pratchett materials in Borders where being stocked somewhere else when I just went through; possibly they're reselling them as wholesale ...

You're not serious...:eek3: I'll go and look again tomorrow; where should I look for them? And what does 'wholesale' mean?

Hah... I hate facebook and marketing. Terry Pratchett ads have started appearing on the ad widget thing...

 I gave my DoS a present at the end of last year as she practically saved my coursework with all the drafts she read and comments she made.

There were a load of Terry Pratchetts on a big table in Waterstone's today.

The latter. JF was my DoS for my first Michaelmas.

AM is one of the nicest people I know, despite being a little absent minded!

Ben and Jerry's ice cream is faaaaaar too sickly for me. Where's strawberry cheesecake frozen yoghurt when you need it?

I went into borders today and it make me feel ill. I really can't buy stuff from closing down sales.
