The chance is this: If an undergraduate wants to live in Parkside (because its closer to the boathouse, its the only place where you have a realistic chance of guaranteeing to be with all of your friends because pretty much nobody else will choose to live there, it has ovens and freezers unlike the rest of college and a private back garden) then you can take that opportunity. If you do not want to live in Parkside for whatever reason, there is no circumstance in which you would have to because there is more than enough room for everybody in central accommodation.

But yes. I have no problem with Caius :dontknow: Nice college :p:

Ahhh I see, and aren't the rooms bigger than fitz street or something?

I have no problem with Peterhouse either (well except for the stuff that you guys moan about anywho!)

Yeh they're bigger and cheaper than most rooms in college, except the most expensive ones, so I guess that's another big incentive.

I can see their appeal!

True. I might even have considered it myself, but I really really really really hate noise, and Parkside is one of the noisiest places in town to live. Two schools, Parker's Piece, taxi rank, bus stations, National Express, fire station and police station, with frequent local loud events held on the Piece. Also because Peterhouse don't use Parkside for conference accommodation, the interior is much more run down, scuffed and grubby whereas all the college accommodation is freshly painted, polished, scrubbed and refurbished with new fittings and nice carpets and stuff. I had to do serious deep cleaning in the kitchen of my summer (parkside) house before I was happy to let my food go anywhere near the surfaces.

I just borrowed a laptop so that I could book a room and then realised that my slot is on the 24th AUGUST. :hmpf: This is a real pain.

As in Girl Guides, smilepea? I used to be a Guide, back in the day :p:

You can nominate somebody else to choose your room for you in that slot. I don't mind doing it if you like.
Great. The coursework documentation for next year came out today (or at least I first found it today) and I already hate it.

Can you opt for a paper instead?

No. I wish I could, I ******* hate this coursework. Basically everyone will get full marks anyway, so I'm only doing it to keep up with everyone else. It takes up so much time and is very stressful. :frown:

Unlucky.

Does it count for much?

Geog. second year had a lot of very annoying coursework but thankfully all summed together it only counted as much as half of one exam paper (or something like that), so if like me you didn't like it and prefer just to make an effort for exams it wasn't a disaster. (I don't think I got more than a 2.2 for any of the bits, and got thirds for a couple  )

Kind of. Maths is weird: basically you have various papers and pieces of coursework, and can do whatever you like and it all just gets totted up at the end. As coursework counts for up to three alphas (read: very desirable bonus marks), and you can get a first with about 12 of those, it's worth doing the coursework - if only because it means you have three fewer questions you need to do well on in the exam.

Hallo all - is it just me or is it quiet in here over the holidays? I'm going to assume that means that everyone is off doing fun/time-consuming things  I've only got one more week left at the Summer school, I can't believe how quickly the time's gone!

Its pretty dead :p: Normal for summer though.
Enjoy your last week :p:
I got all excited when I found out that Ray Davies was playing at the Corn Exchange in December, only to find out that the tickets cost £36.50 with a £2 booking fee. Bleurgh.

Off doing fun/time-consuming things? What does TSR count as then? :p: (says the guy who hasn't posted for more than a week...)

As Craggy said, make the most of the rest of your time there

Sorry to hear that you're not enjoying your coursework. If it's any consolation, I have coursework which is worth 25% of my Part I mark. Technically it's due in for January but I'm trying to get it done this summer. I set myself the ambitious task of finishing my first draft by the end of this month but I'm 90% sure that ain't gonna happen...
