ukebert are you still in Cambridge and in need of Pratchetts? I assumed that you'd put Pratchetts back in my pigeon hole to signal when you wanted me to put through the next ones. (Reaper Man and Hogfather are now free, Thud isn't, but I've just acquired Witches Abroad)

They do, it might be slow but the most worrying thing is that it's supposed to be for work and they won't be very happy if you tunnel iplayer through it.
How's interview helping going?
It could be lupus
Maybe they were expecting the intended recipient to look there?

My mind draws a blank :s-smilie:
I just spotted Athena in Sainsburys

Wrong.

Is there a website (in Oxford it's called OXAM) where I can find examination past papers, eg NatSci first year, bioanth options etc?

I'm certain there is, but I forget where, I'll see if I can find it quickly.

It's really fun actually. Quite comforting to be not nervous in a room full of nervous people :proud:

Met a few people from TSR as well.
Feeling all festive, writing Christmas cards

I haven't yet found one - CamTools had a couple of "sample" past year exam papers for the subjects I was taking, but I always ended up going to the library to photocopy the past papers out of the big massive books...

Well, certainly my past papers are on the web, but I can only find the maths page, which has maths, I think some Natsci maths, and possibly some physics if that's any use?

I think it's up to each department to make past exam questions available in their teaching pages.

How annoying. I wanted to know what the first year genetics (NatSci) and biological anthropology papers were like, to see if I'd be able to supervise them. Grr.

Your college library should have a couple of massive book-type things with every exam paper from last year (and going back to 2002, I think) in them.

Well, I won't live in hope (with it being Darwin) but I'll check, thanks

If you can't find them in Darwin, let me know. King's has archives of the last 30 or so years. I should be able to let you in and sort out access to the photocopier.:yy:
I have the papers somewhere, I may be able to dig them out (not promising).

Some ones I remember:

- Why do geneticists like to study small populations?
- How can we use mtDNA and Y chromosome to trace migration
- What can mapping out the chipmanzee genome teach us about the last common ancestor?

All undergrad colleges have to have them. not sure about darwin. they're in the UL though. or the relevant department library.

I am still in Cambridge but stupidly busy :frown: I reckon that I'll only be able to read one more, sadly. Either Reaper Man (which I haven't read in years) or Maurice (which I haven't read ever).

Don't worry, I'll put them all in your pigeon hole and you can borrow them over Christmas. I've just reread Reaper Man, and I don't really fancy reading Witches Abroad or Maurice again soon, so I don't mind having them back in Lent (You did wan't Witches Abroad, right? I remember you asking for it a few weeks ago) I've got enough other new ones that I do want to reread to sorely interfere with my dissertation as it is.

Are you filling gaps in your collection, or just buying additional copies? Thief of Time is one of my favourites, too; the story is flawless, and it has those magically sinister, magically unpredictable elements that made the early books so good ... haha, yeah I noticed the character.

I read almost all of the Discworld series either by 'borrowing' it from a bookshop while ensconced in the leather sofa of the attached coffee shop, or by borrowing it from friends. Its been nearly a decade since I've read many, and now borrowing seems like too much of a hassle, so I'm just trying to collect one of everything seeing as I think I'll probably reread them quite often over the years.
Anyone else going to the Varsity rugby match tomorrow?

Yeah, that's sensible. Well, if you ever need to borrow any, just ask (I have most of them; missing a few here and there). I enjoy bookshop/library reading: "this is not a library, Sir ...", "screw you Dewy, and your decimal system".
