That won't mean anything to any of you, but it's taken me hours to do, so I'm posting it anyway. It's an ABC of a folk tune that I've transcribed off a CD.

This is where you start slapping your thighs with a handkerchief, right? ()

*sigh*

You do not slap your thighs with a handkerchief! Handkerchiefs are for waving in the air and are officially called "wavers". :p:

That is a Quebecois crooked slip reel, for your information

Interestingly I can hazard a guess at what most of the symbols mean. I'll put it into Sibelius when I have the chance.

Can Sibelius read ABC? If not there are various converters on the web, tune-o-tron is probably the one to use, as it is too long for the Montreal Tunebook one.

Don't think so, but I can hand-transcribe it.

ABC is well worth learning, as it is now the default method of sharing notation, in the folk world at least. It is text based, easy to understand, intuitive and it is possible to use directly, rather than converting to dots. It is limited in what it can do obviously, but it is a fantastic way of representing music.

My bank account has run out of money, which means that I have no food apart from pasta and cheese. I would give such a lot for a pack of sainsbury's cookies but have no means of getting one :frown: Ah well, must get on with packing.

Craggy, have returned your pratchetts. Thanks ever so much, really enjoyed them
Anyone care to summarise the last week of CamChat (since page 433)?
I just got back from the Varsity Ski Trip.
Oh Christ.

I've just mucked up in a very big way. I put in a gig wrong in the diary, meaning that it is next month instead of this monday. So people are going to be very annoyed with me. I am really very upset at the moment and there isn't anything around that can realistically cheer me up :frown:
I have realised that I don't actually know what a good proportion of my vac work is. Partly this is due to my conversation teacher telling us what she wanted us to do in very fast Russian and then pointedly looking at me and saying "if you don't understand what I'm saying, tell me and I can say it in English" so I had a high horse moment and pretended that I did understand when I had no idea and was planning on asking my friend what it was later except that he's now lost the sheet that he wrote it down on so we're relying on the other person in the class :p:

Whiskey? Listening to Glinka while shaving? Tea?

I have a very busy week coming up. This is going to affect that plan for all the work I should be doing. Good.

If I'm going to be forced to read till dawn because of my essay deadline tomorrow, I'm really not impressed to find myself trudging through first year texts because of the crap that is Education

ahh what have they done now?

This seems to be a common refrain!

Just finished putting stamps on all my christmas cards!!
I just realised that I haven't had a single christmas card this year. How depressing!

Well as I suggested in that post, the reading I'm having to force myself to do in practically no time is so overly simplistic that its easier than all of the readings I did in my first year here. When I'm forced to lose sleep over my work I like to actually feel as though I'm learning something and being challenged by the stuff I'm reading, not

On with reading about the history of the terms 'race', 'ethnicity' and 'nation' ....
