No, sorry, went home last week :frown: Does your faculty not have borrowing rights? I thought everyone could sign up to the MML library...
nom nom, just bought lots of delicious ingredients for the lamb and celeriac stew with dumplings that i am making for epitome (and E) tonight.
Has anybody else joined in to the anarchy and bought RATM:Killing in the name of this week in the hope to beat the X-factor to number one?

It's a vain hope - in fact I'm thinking of actually betting on the X-Factor track being number one.

Even still to take part is good. It is all about the principle of not buying into the X-factor. Are you still not even going to pay 99p for it? I know I have, despite already having the song
I hate the song and don't see that it has anything more to do with Christmas than the X Factor song. Unless you want to hark back to the crusades and a discussion of religious wars, but I don't think that's the point somehow :p: Besides, your money's just going to Sony anyway.

Luckily my department library did have the book; it just didn't show up the first time for some reason.

Oh, glad to hear it  What book was it? Anything interesting?

I don't particularly like the song either, but I think the point is to make the race for Christmas number 1 a bit more exciting, rather than knowing from about September that it will just be the x-factor winner again.

Plus it shows the "power of the internets" or whatever...

I don't care about where the money goes. RATM said they are planning to donate some of the money to charity because of the sales of it. The whole idea is to have something rather than just the X factor as number one. Its the same every year, another karaoke song by a winner of the X factor. Killing in the name of just happened to be the choice.

I know quite a few people who hate it and still have bought it based on the principle. I already have the song yet still bought it based on principle

Heh, thanks  Image, Music, Text by Roland Barthes. For my second supervision essay of the holiday. I'm looking forward to finally reading some Barthes directly after reading referenes to him right throughout my degree. It sounds like his early work is good despite his unfortunate postmodern turn later on.

I'm glad for holiday borrowing times, because I'm actually not going to finish off this essay until just before term. I'm making a start on my dissertation today

Oh crap, I feel guilty.
I got some chocolates for the kids of the Fellow I sometimes babysit for. They've opened a new sweets shop in Cambridge which has the same name as the family surname, so really I couldn't resist it, given how excited the kids would be to see their names printed on the sweets labels.

But the family have now put a box of Lindt chocolates in my pigeon hole, which is probably a sight more pricey than the gifts for the kids were!

Oh well :teeth: Chocolate!

Give me a link to (a non-DRM high-quality version of) it and I'll buy it.

Unfortunately Ladbrokes online couldn't confirm my age automatically - anyone know the closest betting shop that has decent odds on Joe whatever being number one this Christmas?

Hmm, it's coming up to 5pm and I haven't had lunch yet - I should probably do something about that...

I haven't, don't really intend to either.
Seems just a bit of a pointless principle to me, I mean, I've seen the X-factor like, twice in my life, and I wasn't even aware it'd been christmas number 1 more than once.
I think if I was gonna go for something like this, it'd be making it a christmas song at number 1, not just another random song.

Ladbrokes would have had the best odds as I think somone said they had RATM as favourites for number 1.

Here a links:

Its also on iTunes(number one in the chart) for 99p so you can download it from there.

EDIT: heres the link to iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/killing-in-the-name/id266798993?i=266799000

To be honest I would have thought that as well. I would have picked something like Fairytale of New York and had a campaign to get it number one instead of the x factor, but its a bit late now. They have had 4/5 christmas number ones in a row, so its about time for a change
I've bought it just because I'm interested to see how much influence an group spawned from the internet can have over the chart.

I couldn't really care less who gets no 1 in the end, be it Joe or RATM. I wouldn't say I was buying out of principle, more out of interest. And since I joined the group, I feel it's my duty to follow through with my pledge! Would've been a better movement if they'd went for a charity single or something.

Anyhoo, it's only 29p on Amazon for a 256kbps DRM-free MP3.

I'd have gone for Merry Christmas Everybody or possibly the pogues, or maybe I wish it could be Christmas every day...
