 I just couldn't do colouring in. Don't have the patience for it. I know other medics who are using it but. I am trying to just use my notes, make new revision notes and then flash cards
As for the Harry Potter books, all of mine are the childrens versions i.e. the drawn versions in hardback. First edition to from the 4th book up, though that isn't that uncommon

Oh :o: I thought fumble was joking

No - that book really helps some people. It is a matter of taste through.

I don't have any anymore. Most of my books are back in South Africa. And I went off Harry Potter halfway through the series - I think after book four - and gave them all away. After I got back into them I borrowed them or read them in the shop, which I had a habit of doing back then.

Looking back at my bookcase I see black Trudi Canavan, black Neil Gaiman, black Phillip Pullman and a black edition of LOTR...

My Phillip Pullamns have great covers, including an alethiometer looking very much as I imagine it would on the front of Northern Lights

Yep. The alethiometer is very good. And all of that set of designs. Not such a fan of the alternative, portrait/painting styled covers they came up with after that.
The snow is pretty.

However it meant that I had a horrible 50 minutes trying to get back from Addenbrooke's today - snow on the ground, the wind (and thus snow) blowing against me, and zero visibility as my glasses fogged up.

But now that I'm back in my room and nice and warm the snow outside has become pretty. And will remain pretty until tomorrow when I have to go out again...

Oh and as an aside, looks like BA isn't going on strike anymore.

This one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Northern-Lights-His-Dark-Materials/dp/0590660543

I love the alethiometer image here, and the other two book covers too. I hate book covers with photographs from the film adaptation though - looks so tacky, and it also gives you preconceptions about the appearance of the characters etc if you are about to read the book (without having seen the film).
I love beautiful books  If I find a nicer version of a book I already have I tend to buy it :o: Sabriel-Lirael-Abhorsen are rather gorgeous because they're a slightly different shape to usual books - a bit more square, with lovely paper and nice font. Yum

Sabriel-whassat? :wtf: Which books do you mean, Zoe? And I totally agree about books with pictures from films :yucky:

Which version do you have? My Sabriel is quite the standard size and paper (although the font is still quite fancy).

Oh! You mean a title or series. I thought she might have meant a publisher or a special type of book :o:

It might seem sad, but looking out of my window I do actually feel like a character in the Chronicles of Narnia :o: Old Court has lanterns on the corners of the grass which are just like The lantern, and combined with all that snow its just gorgeous  I'm really going to miss living here. I'm glad I went for the room after deliberating so hard between this and one somewhere else back in the summer ballot.

This is the one I have. It's a white hardcover with a clear plastic dustcover. I've just got it down to look again and it is ever so slightly squarish and with gorgeous thick paper that almost crackles when you turn it and has a lovely texture

I think that's the one my copies are!
Love those books.

:console: You'll be back faster than you like. And if we're lucky it will snow in Lent again :yep:
Did you have an ok time the last two weeks? Were there enough Emmanuelites around?

Excellent, some of my favourite fantasy books  They're not especially funny like Pratchett, but they're incredibly well written and I love the plot and ideas - perhaps something that fans of His Dark Materials would enjoy? They're not quite as deep conceptually, but really good stories!
