Merry Chirstmas to One and All! Hope you all have a great day, with plenty of sumptuous wine, food and good cheer. Lastly I hope santa was kind to you all. Festive love
They sang O Magnum Mysterium which I sang with my school choir last year...

I absolutely love that one, it just totally melts you. The Downing choir did it awesomely at the carol service. Must check to see if the Kings choir is on iPlayer...
oOo. I got a vintage, oversized wool cardigan with leather buttons. I've always thought the baggy 'boys sweater' kind of style looked quite nice, but I wasn't sure about risking it. Turns out it looks quite nice (I think)
bleurgh- had a raging fever yesterday got up to 38.8 degrees C by early evening which severely reduced enjoyment of christmas foodstuffs and wine On plus side presents were good with some nice Dows port, a useful cufflink case, the new hitchhikers guide and monies for kayaking gear hope everyone's festivities went well- your cardy sounds nice craggy, i'm always a fan of vintage clothes
I've almost finished reading this - it has been surprisingly good.
I thought it was very good for not being Douglas Adams, and that Eoin Colfer's style was quite compatible anyway.. but I did kinda expect Artemis to pop up..
Mm. Hamlet. It's such a David Tennant Christmas, yay!
But I still find churches to be very comforting places, of any denomination.
Agreed. And they have lovely architecture.

I don't know tbh. They are both in identical style (that style that a shedload of english churches seem to be in...dating from C18th I think?). I know the one in my village was built because before that the locals had to trek out to a little chapel on the coast to worship+bury their dead (hence the path by my house leading that way is called the coffin path).
I don't know much about the history of the more recently built churches tbh, whether local money or central church money funded them etc. A lot certainly do adhere to the same design... The little old squat+square norman ones are the best though.
A lot of English Churches are Gothic (late 12thC-mid 16thC), but it is occasionally difficult to distinguish between true Gothic and Neo-gothic (19th C ish), since the Victorians "restored" many churches.
i have spent this afternoon doing some drawings (of their pets) as gifts for friends of ours who are looking after our cat. i'd forgotten how much i love drawing, and surprised myself with the fact that i've not lost it.

I don't think that would've worked, so I'm glad he didn't (unless I missed it).
Are eucharists normally... weird? You know, full of "and with thy spirits" and having to respond to every line of some of the readings? I haven't been to a proper (ie non-funeral/wedding) service since I was 9, and I'm sure those services were mostly hymns, a couple of prayers and a short sermon, not this get up - sit down - stand and stay standing - process to the back of the church stuff
Yep.
I got forced to go to midnight mass this year. It was an hour and a half of that with half an hour of carols before it, I almost died.
I am sad. I was pretending that I was working by playing Civ earlier as Russia (when you give them orders they reply in Russian, lol) and now my dad has kicked me off the desktop saying I have my own computer. Which is a Mac, and my version of Civ is PC Badtimes.

Yes. We had two or three every term in primary school.
I can still remember many of the words, though- clearly they managed to imprint upon my subconscious.
