Not *too* horrible. I mean, it was usable. But just badly designed - basically they took the normal Symbian layout and just made it touch sensitive, rather than redesigning it to make it easy to use. So you get lots of fiddly text menus and so on instead of easy-to-hit icons. They may have improved things for the N97 though, since the 5800 I tested came out quite a while ago.

For web browsing Nokia's default browser is about the worst around too, imo :p: Though I guess you could add Opera or something instead.

hmm, i'll read some more reviews and see what's changed.

Nokia's is the only mobile-based web browser i've ever used. i guess, having used it for 18 months i've got pretty used to it. I've also got used to t9 for writing long complicated emails and posts.

i'll try adding opera when i get it, perhaps.

Woo.

Had fantastic time in lakes, despite rain, came back, home for around 12 hours, went to Sidmouth. Had fantastic time in Sidmouth, despite rain, came back, will be home for around 15 hours before going interrailing.

I am ludicrously unprepared for this trip. Seriously.

It is indeed, but even by those standards I'm unprepared. It's all under control now, because I now have accommodation for tonight

James (and Amy and Lyra) - I have had the narrowboating week from hell! We were in a 63ft ex-Hoseasons boat, and our trials included being too big for the lock after Denver and getting the rudder bent by the guillotine lock; running aground and having to be pulled free near Outwell; and breaking down and nearly crushing a cruiser called Tubby in front of her owner just outside March, and that was just the first day cruising! We ran out of water any time anyone had a shower, however brief, and suffered catastrophic engine failure (caused by who knows what, but with £80 of diesel seeping into the sump...) yesterday morning about an hour's cruise from Peterborough, in the middle of a country park - no proper bank, wrong side of the river for a footpath, and rapidly running out of water. When I took my chance to get off (ferried by inflatable canoe to a bit of firm bank!) we were flushing the toilets with river water, and the next step was drinking rain water, and then drinking boiled Nene water. Boating did not seem an idyllic way of life this week!

Oh, blimey! That makes our journey from Birmingham to Cambridge seem like a pleasure cruise! I can hardly beleive that you ran out of water after one shower-hireboats normally have huge tanks! Maybe you had a problem with the water pump or something. Glad you survived though, and I hope you still managed to have some fun along the way?
What did you think of the area? Or were you too preoccupied by the disasters to notice? You must come for a cruise on the Duck once its fixed, and hopefully we'll have a more trouble-free time of it!

I sincerely hope not, as that would be more inconvenient than I can express in words.

Apparently there are freshers' "coming up" parties that go on in different regions for Cambridge - anyone know how we find out about these?

Mmm there are the ones mentioned on this page but I assumed that they were for undergrads http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/info/newugs.html

Hey guys, have ventured over here from the Offer Holder's thread (I bring greetings) just to ask a question... does much go on in the last week of term before Christmas? Are there end of term exams or anything? Just planning my social life in advance... cheers.

No, and not really. There will be an end of term bop as usual and we have a Christmas formal, but nothing in particular.

Teehee, bop. Cheers  So if for example I was to hypothetically have something planned for the evening of the 3rd December, it wouldn't be too much of a problem?

What subject will you be studying?

For Architecture and perhaps some others, there are deadlines at the very end of term for project work. On the second to last weekend before Christmas, I was always frantically working. But its probably only a few subjects that will require that.

I see what you are up to now(sorry for invading this thread guys)!! I was going to plan to go to see Dream Theater on the 10th October in London, but thought the college might have something planned or i might be busy, so I can't see that happening sadly :frown:
