I don't like the hostility towards the new freshers- a simple "please keep the spam to a minimum" ought to suffice. Otherwise they will feel unwelcome in future and that just isn't the point of this thread. The rude snapping at people who accidentally stray into this thread is bad enough, but being so with future students isn't on.

You're absolutely right. It ought to suffice. So I fail to understand why some of them are still spamming. Actually, that was mostly "为人民服务", before he got banned, but still, the fact that they've been here a couple of hours and are already arguing with us over what they're allowed to post doesn't endear anyone to them. Apagg is baiting them, but that doesn't excuse posts like this, which blatantly aren't attempts at friendship.

I agree, although I think that post was probably one of the least questionable. And attacking it so vehemently just proved his point.

Anyway, hello to new freshers. We don't mean to be nasty to you, but this thread is our last place of refuge from the incessant, repetitive questions like "omg when will I get my letter?!" that plague this forum. We hope you'll understand, and I for one have no problem with any freshers posting here as long as they don't spam it up.

Meh, I found it pretty questionable. The accusation seemed to be that we were somehow infringing upon his right to free speech by wanting to converse amongst ourselves without people like "为人民服务" coming in and spamming the place up. Either way, it wasn't a good way to make friends. I'm kind of hoping it'll die down, because this kind of tension between current students and freshers can only be unhealthy.

He was proving the point that we have been told we cannot discuss in our usual manner, hence lack of free speech(though I probably don't need to tell you that) As abs has stated, the fact that he got warned over it clearly proves his point of a lack of free speech

Meh, I'll agree to disagree. I know the guy well, and I'm sure it was intended as more of a tongue and cheek remark than anything else.
