Hello freshers! Nice to see you in here! How are your preparations for coming up going?
***
my little sister did really well in her gcses! So proud of her!
I have my laptop ordered, my stethoscope has arrived even though I wont need it until 4th year, and I still need to go shopping for a suit. As for flights, they are at disastrous times, meaning I will be arriving at stansted at 7.30am or 7.30 pm
I also need to decide how to squeeze everything into the bags and how I am ever going to be able to get everything back home at the end of each term

my suggestion of a [controversial] link/new interpretation of Bourdieu.

Also I really need a good second reference for my MPhil application Yes, much as I hate to say it, this kind of thing is worth thinking about.

I don't expect anybody will interfere with my approach, its just that they might not be able to help in an ideal sense if they've got an entirely different take on the entire discipline, which seems guaranteed. Yes, though on the other hand your supervisor will know exactly what kind of help they've given you when they write your reference. If you've had to be very independent and succeeded in producing a strong piece that will be commented on.

As is becoming 'known' by the department I'm applying to for my MPhil An idea - Volunteer to be student rep on a department committee next year.
I just saw a spider. I tried to catch it but it escaped. Then I found it again and caught it, but am now slightly worried that the second spider is in fact a different spider from the first, meaning the first is still free
thegluups, I'm doing admin book processing stuff for my borough's libraries. Basically, I'm processing all the new books that we get in to go out to our ten libraries, and various other admin things on top of that (stationery ordering, magazine invoicing, creating catalogue records, etc). Fun
Where is the harmony between the Freshers and the CamChatters?! We'll probably all meet one day at a formal or something, so play nice

ive got back from travelling in the middle east last week. am looking forward to going back to cambridge next month too. will be hanging around at home in the mean time.......
I know I shouldn't be jealous, but I am Where did you go?
For those that are interested, over the last week I have gone from Istanbul to Athens, then to Mycenae, Nafplio, Epidauros and now to Delphi, which is spectacularly beautiful. This means that I have seen most of the major Greek archeological sites, barring Olympia, which I couldn't be bothered with.

I would recommend Dmini and Sesklo, both of which are in the Volos region (that is, if you are passing that way). They are not Bronze Age , or Geometric/Classical, but a couple of striking Neolithic tell sites, or magoules. I know that Sesklo at least has some form of visitor information display to render it comprehensible.

Probably have to wait for the next trip unfortunately, or whenever I regain patience with the Greek bus system.
Interestingly I have developed rather a penchant for Archaic sculpture. Something to do with the smile I think. There are some very fine examples here.

Sucks, doesn't it. Totally goes against my preferences/sensibilities having to think about relationships in an explicitly instrumental way

Well that's the other issue. When do I ask for this reference? It now seems that I'm not going to get any work produced before term, other than maybe reading, but they accept MPhil applicants from 1st of September onwards and several people have recommended getting it in ASAP in order to make a good impression and get the colleges I want So hard to judge!!!

In my final year? Er no. I'd like to keep my stress levels in check, although I perfectly respect that other people seem to thrive on this sort of thing And before anybody says it, I know its not very much work, but having to go to a faculty meeting the day before an essay deadline or whatever would really not thrill me.
I'm very busy at the mo, and not online much, so I'll just have my belated 'word' at this Fresher nonsense
1:Grow up!!!! Just think about this for 2 seconds. Either you're going to be meeting the rest of us shortly, for occasional TSR meets/formals and the like (or maybe not, perhaps you'll just disappear once you matriculate and no longer have time for TSR) 2: Who are you kidding with this 'freedom of speech' crap? You guys are 17/18, right? Old enough to drop the melodrama. Obviously the warning for spamming and the like was because you broke TSR rules not because you challenged the "almighty sovereignty of Camchat" 3: I don't really get this whole 'us' versus 'them' nonsense. We only discourage other people posting in here if they come and post a long list of their A level grades and ask for our advice. You're effectively students here too now, so you are us. Why you've just gone out of your way to annoy when you might be interested in using this thread, I really do not know.
