How many people just got PM'ed a list of about 20 questions from "im so academic"

Hey
I've just done the practice TSA (http://www.admissionstests.cambridgeassessment.org.uk/adt/digitalAssets/103033_Specimen_Section_1.pdf) and was just wondering if anyone could explain how they come to the following answers?

Firstly, I was debating between A and B on Q4 for a while...both seemed to fit 'the negative test' for me, and both seemed to be assumed implicitly in the text...so what makes B an assumption and A not? (I chose A, the answer was B)

Secondly, i think I'm missing something on question 31 because it seems obvious to me that the answer should be B, but it is apparently C - can someone talk me through how this is the case?

Thanks

Q4) A is pretty much the opposite of what the text is implying.

Q)31 You are sending 5 70g envelopes and 3 110g envelopes, so that's 5 envelopes at 29c and 3 at 36c. Simple multiplication. You might be looking at the wrong categories or calculating first class prices instead of second class.

In Q4 A doesn't really fit with the conclusion. The assumption is a condition that must be met for the conclusion to be logical. Here the conclusion is that because exam results are getting better teachers must be coaching their students- this does not need to assume the reliability of exams, but instead must assume that the exams are of the same level of difficulty at all times for the results to be comparable

Q31- note the weights are NOT OVER. So the three members who get 110g parcels are not charged at the 100g rate as it is over 100g, they are charged at the 150g rate which is 36c. The other 5 at 70g are charged at the 100g rate which is 29c. therefore it is 3x36= 108 + 5x29= 145 = 253 which is C

Right, if he was PMing everyone I'm making a thread about it.

Cheers for the answers guys...it all makes sense now :P

I had overlooked the "weight not over" on the problem solving question, which thinking about it is kinda thick!
I hadnt really looked at 4A like that teebs but yours makes more sense...I had considered it as an assumption because...well having read your explanation i can't even think of how i squared it in my head but...it made sense at the time!

what did you get?

44/50

Quite happy with it, but its not really comparable with the real test results as its not weighted, and I didn't do it in exam conditions, just whenever I got a bit of free time

No problem, silly mistakes are the best sort to make because they're easier to avoid when you're actually doing it.

Who actually took the reccommended Maths and History for As or a2?
I assume at least 80% did/should.
Question:
How much maths are we expected to know for the TSA?
I remember looking at some of the questions from the old papers and it seemed to me that getting the right answer meant you would have had to do at least AS maths, which is odd seeing are they say they don't require it?

Just wondering if I have to brush up basically, because I'm fairly crap. I'm going to have to re-learn all my times tables and shiz aren't I :frown:.

You wouldn't need above GCSE level, but you may have to apply it in different kinds of ways. I can't remember anything beyond kind of common sense maths - there's certainly no calculus or anything like that

Me, for AS and A2.
But because I wanted to, rather than because I felt I should.

Thanks Ollie, it was something about traffic that seemed to need some C2 sequences and series stuff but that was in the old style PPE test rather than the TSA so I guess I needn't worry.
were is the old style PPE test? Could anyone post it or/and the old E&M test?

Few people have both.

Personally, I had maths but not history

Anybody else got an offer from York for PPE or responses from any of your other back-up universities?
