Oxford's is better.

More helpfully, most people at Oxford drop one of the three subjects at Oxford after their first year, at York this is not possible.
How can you maximise your chances of getting in, excluding reading around the subjects?

What colleges are near to the Bod?

London Prophet
This was the one I completed to get in (2004 entry)

Hm, looks quite cool. A little bit like LNAT used for law admissions.
I think I'd prefer that over TSA!

Hi, I was wondering if you do more than, say, 4 A levels, and say you still get all A's...is that better in general, and for PPE in particular, as it shows you are good at multiple disciplines. In other words is 8As better than 6As, and is that better than 4As? (i reckon yes, but at a decreasing rate.)
Im doing 8 A levels, and I'm pretty confident I can get 6-7 A's. Would they ask you a reason why you have taken more than 4 subjects? And if so, is there any novel ways you guys came up with to answer that.
As Ollie and many others have said, the standard 3 A-Levels (with a good mix of strong academic subjects) is what Oxford requires, do 8 if you want to, but that won't increase your chances of getting in. at one of the ppe open days one of the admissions tutors even said that they don't differenciate between 6 to 3A's s...

so what matters is 3-4 academic subjects studied in depth?

also, what do the ppe admin tutors prefer - 3 A levels or 4 A levels?
From what i've been told/read they don't "prefer" 3 A-Level's, that's all they expect and they don't want anything more. I did 5A levels although I got 5A's I don't think that gives me an edge over someone with 3.

It's not a question of 3 or 4 A-Levels...
Most of the people that get into to do PPE could easily do 4 and more A-Levels... so my advice (not that it counts for anything) would be to do as many as you want, but make sure that you read around you subjects and maintain a strong interest in PPE...

make sure what? make sure what?
make sure that you read around you subjects and maintain a strong interest in PPE

how do you go about doing that?

also can anyone give me a list of ECs that a academic and/or related to PPE please?
the two important a-levels you take are
Maths & History, that's what oxford advise, so that's what you should do. (I'm not saying that its essential, but i do think that it helps) as a third -english lit, F.Maths, a science, language... any of those sounds good.
what about maths and classical civilisation + 2 academic a levels excluding langauges?

I don't understand how you can be so set on going to 'Oxbridge' and still spend god knows how many HOURS pestering everyone, everywhere on TSR!

I usually don't even care about this kind of thing but you're everywhere I look!! You must have read the same things OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Just focus on getting the best GCSE's, AS levels and A level results you can. Do as many as you're comfortable doing and doing well. Read around your subject, think around your subject and write a good personal statement. If you're really that obsessed then I guess you could do lot's of practise doing critical thinking papers and writing essays for your TSA. Extra curricular activities may or may not help but they can't do any harm so you could go learn the celtic harp as well. Write some journal articles and try and get yourself published. Commit Rousseau's works to memory in the original french and use extracts of this your interview. Wear really tight jeans and bend over lots.

TELL THEM ABOUT A ******* BANANA.

Win :P

haha, I discovered this thread like 2 hours ago, and Instead of doing an english essay i've been reading up

I'm a 5th year doing 5 highers in Scotland, I 'should' get five A's, if I do then I reckon i'd stay on and do a sixth year for adv highers and try and get into this course.

I have a standard grade maths and i've never done history is it *really really omg you must have maths at advanced higher to get in or you will DIE* because i'm rubbish at maths and i'd much rather read a good book xD

Yeah it's probably been asked before, but the english school system is le confusing..

I'd like to do journalism so I might just stay in glasgow, it was just an idea that I am now quite attached to hehe.

Does it have to be a Fairtrade banana or is any banana okay? Do the admissions tutors mind if it isn't the season for bananas?
