No. Yes. No. Yes. Yes. Oriel.

Haha
Hey maghreblover I'm not at all an international nor have I completed A levels/IB...that's exactly why I'm surprised. In fact...I sent off my UCAS form much earlier than most people on here (judging by previous posts) and am surprised as to why York haven't contacted me...oh well...I'm sure I'll survive

Hey Guys,

For the PPE course does your GCSE grades have a big impact on whether you are choosen or not or is the TSA more important?
Thanks:smile:

hmmm................................................
so..................................................
you're in the same position as me (i.e. non-international 6th form student)....
and you already have an offer from warwick..........
and i don't............
jealous much?????? :yep:

tell you what, maybe you should be content with your warwick offer for now, and i'll be content with york for now too, after all one man's meat is another man's (or girl's) poison----- and gosh, how i wish we could exchange our poisons. how about an offer swap????
or we could decide to each share bits of the offer that we have and end up with bits from both...hmmm game theory methinks?

PPE at Manchester or Essex? SHOOT.
It HAS to be Manchester! Purely because of it's reputation, which is greater than Essex's by far...
It's been a bit quiet on here recently...somewhat oddly. Anyway, has anyone got interview invitations yet? I know some physics, chemistry, art and psychology ones have been sent out.

Oxford recommends maths A-level with PPE. Is this because of the logic element of the course, or is there another aspect to it?
Maths shows you can deal with a problem in a logical manner.

It helps a little with logic
It helps a fair bit with the economics
It helps a lot with the introduction to mathematical techniques in economics

Great, thanks for the quick response! I'll almost certainly be taking it, along with English, History and German. I could substitute one of these with Economics, but having taken it at GCSE I'm not sure how useful this would be.

There is a game with two players, You may guess numbers between 1-100. The object is to guess half the opponents number. What do you guess?

I am in a pickle on this one. The conclusion I can come to is that you cannot win. A logical opponent would chose 1 as their number, since the parameters restrict a counter answer; indeed any odd number would remove your slim chances of success.

Have I missed the point?

It depends whether you can choose only integers.

My guess is that 1 is the best answer, yes.
seriously, has any oxford PPE applicant heard anything at all since we did the TSA test????

Economics would probably be useful, and as you've done it at GCSE it should be pretty easy to get an A. History and Maths are Oxford's suggested subjects for PPE and I'm pretty sure English is liked as much as History at some other universities so those 3 make sense. Personally I'd take Economics instead of German unless you particularly wanted to do a language or do something in Germany at some point.

I'd definately take Maths though, some other universities require it for their courses so it would be a good idea to keep your options open lol. In fact some universities probably want Economics or at least prefer it so it'd probably be a good idea to look into that before you choose.
Even though I got rejected today (:frown: ) , I have to say this thread was very helpful, thanks.
