From what I could find in various threads these are the people who have received interviews for PPE and the colleges so far. I decided that having a new thread would just be more clutter as there are already 3 different threads that people are posting interviews in. I will keep it in the PPE guide thread and the Economics offers thread. PM me to be added but I'll try to look for new people as well , I thought it'd be nice to look at, hope it doesn't panic anyone.

Well done to all these people and sorry to those who were unlucky (maybe me on monday :frown:)

listen guys
how are you preparing for the interviews? i mean of course i have been reading around the subject and stuff...but are you doing anything special?the subjects are just soooo broad that i cant come up with any reasonable way to prepare.
thanks

My take on the interview questions are not that they are too broad ranging but they require you to have thought BEFOREHAND. If you just read a topic, without analysing it then you really need to knuckle down now. I arranged a mock interview the past Tuesday with a guy called Russell Tillson, which cost a few bob, but it really gives you a feel for the course.

He did the whole changing tone approach. One moment he attacked, the next he made a stupid comment and wanted me to criticise it. The key seemed to be to voice your opinion, whilst still being prepared to accept that you are wrong.

I was asked questions about Democracy, the MPC, the House of Lords, Monopsony and a stonker on the "point of Philosophy."

None of these questions can be answered on the spot. I felt the best approach was to analse a part of the question you understood, and work from basic principals. DOing this logically leads you to an answer, which even if it IS wrong, you can then say -"well have I taken a logical aproach, but am struggling to see where a made an error, could you help me out?"

They don't want you to have all the answers, if you did, you shouldn't be an undergrad.

So the more practice questions you can lay your hands on the better. Get your parents, friends, neighbours, teachers to do practice interviews so that you are calm. My exam results were lower than I would have liked, so I am thoroughly looking forward to the possibility of an interview; it is the only place you can really show your interest for the subject.

I hope that helps.

And I still haven't heard yet. My ass in numb from sitting on the wooden window sill for the last two hours.. listening to my music, in the hope it will calm me down!

I'm sure you'll be fine. The majority of people here have gotten interviews from what I've seen. Hopefully, you will not join me in the minority .

i was told at open day 1 in every 3.5 (who get interviewed), which is quite a nice increase in chances.

so they only interview 28% of PPE candidates (My maths might be wrong) that is a good increase what college was this at??

Nah, what is being said is that 1 in 3.5 of PPE interviewees get a place. It's a much higher percetage of applicants that get an interview.

So by getting an interview your chances increase from 1in5 to 2in7. What percentage get an interview in that case?
Reply 2890
The amount of people called for interviews for PPE somewhat on the college, but the Oxford website says that around 75%-80% of applicants get invited. Also, 1 in 5 get a place, so if you make it to the interviews your odds have indeed risen from 20% to around 27% (it also means that you'll have about 2.7 people against you) - on average, that is. Statistics might depend on the college but they also said they will pool your application (send it to otehr colleges) if the particular college is oversubscribed, so I guess that figure is pretty much it.

I got my interview invitation yesterday by email so obviously I'm happy now. Flying to the UK on Sunday one week from now. Excited.

My maths is a bit pants, but I think that means that 70% get an interview - i.e. the difference between 3.5 and 5 multiplied by 20 (because 5 is 1/20th of 100).
i got rejected!!

I've been questioning whether oxford was right for me for a good 6 weeks to the point that last week i was considering declining an interview if i got one (although, had i got one i would have still attended). I wondered whether these feelings were just self delusion and wondered if i'd really be upset if i was rejected. But when i opened the letter this morning i was like ''meh''. I've already got good offers from elsewhere and i probably couldn't have hacked the workload at oxford anyway!

I think the allusion to oxford in my PS seriously helped my application to other unis though. I got offers almost immediately.

But, to those of you who are adamant that oxford is right for you, good luck everybosy and i wish you all the best at interviews. Let me know how they go!!

btw ieuan, mansfield was my college of choice. I don't know if you have already been there on an open day or whatever but the ppe staff are extremely friendly so chill out for the interview (but not too much)
jjbristol, what are ur gcses and a-level predictions like? (if u don't mind me asking)

I was told at open day by a prof at braesnose that when you get selected for interview your chance of getting a place goes up to 1 in 3.5. To begin with it's normally 1 in 5.5, so this means less than 65% get interviews.
Also, may be lower this year, as they can use TSA scores to differentiate candidates before interview.

Sorry i'm just quoting myself as topic seems to have surfaced again, and those new to thread/who didn't notice before may appreciate it, as it is now like 146 pages long! really sorry if this goes against TSR rules or something, i'm not really an internet forum type usually- just find this quite helpful as i don't know any other PPEists.

On my letter it said that you had to be back at the college by 11pm, I'm not sure that really constitutes as night though so for me at least the night life is out of the picture lol!

I'm sure you can still explore the pubs until 11pm. Most people won't be 18 and the bartenders are likely to be IDing everyone at this time.
Has anyone NOT gotten an interview invitation yet?
