It's a question about perception. Does the colour red exist independently of your mind? If so, what resemblance, if any, does the property of redness in reality bear to our perception of the colour red? Why should people agree on what is red? Etc. The communism line is an interesting one, though; but if you're talking to a philosophy tutor you shouldn't turn that train of thought into a conversation about communism. Political philosophy is part of the politics course. You should talk about the ability of objects and their properties to evoke ideas, memories, or emotion.

It seems very unlikely that you would be asked that at interview. It's too vague. Tutors might expect some prior knowledge of philosophy, but theories of perception is a pretty big ask.

Revision is unnecessary and practically impossible, although it probably won't hurt to read/reread anything you mentioned in your personal statement (especially if you mentioned Utilitarianism, or any Mill really, seeing as the entire ethics course is based on it).

Nice answer.:yep:

Mayeb if I were to take the communism/socialism line and then discuss the morality of a political theory based on the community over the individual?
Good luck everybody at the interviews!!!!!! GO AND BE AMAZING Y'ALL!!! I'll be praying for you, and that may sound weird for some of you, but I'm a Christian so I'll be praying anyway. So sad I couldn't be there but I'm over it now. Anyway, go make TSR proud! and hope the meet goes well
Would studying Politics and Economics at another university while applying to PPE @ Oxford endanger my chances of getting in?

I want to apply to Oxford but I fear that it will look strange when applying. I don't wanna go to Oxford to retake subjects I am studying all ready, but I know it's not exactly the same at Oxford. I just want subjects close to each other.

It shouldn't, but you will have to retake first year.
Phew, I'm back home. I was decidedly melancholy when I left this morning, but I was also very glad to see my town's sign as the train pulled up at the station. In any case I will be gutted if I don't get in; after living in Brasenose for 3 days, York looks very unattractive. How did everyone find their interview?
My philosophy one was ok-ish, my economics one wasn't great, but my politics interview went really well. Not expecting an offer though. The competition seemed pretty fierce.

I walked out feeling reasonably happy with mine...

It could have been blissful ignorance though.

No chance.

Oh man, it was bad.

hi! Haven't been posting here in ages. Well, to everyone who've just had interviews, being invited and completing the interview is a big achievement in itself! Congratulations!

Really envy you guys haha, because you got to experience Oxford in the very least! If I get rejected it'd be without even taking a real life glance at Oxford beforehand...

So, no matter how the interview went, all the best to everyone!
I absolutely loved it, what a fantastic experience! I can't tell whether or not it went well but that really was very worthwhile, I had such a great time, met some great people and learnt a bit too. Sorry I couldn't go to the meet guys, did it happen?
Nope - the ice cream shop was shut. BUT I went to the cinema that night with some PPEists so it was kewwl. What did everyone else get up to?

Congratulations wittgenstein, it's good to know Oxford isn't the be-all and end-all.

Lets say I want to study PPE at Oxford.
What kind of grades do I need? (do they only accept the one with all the best grades)

How big percentage gets an interview at Oxford (for PPE)?

Are some colleges more grade-fixed than others, meaning they only invite people with a certain grade mean and above?

Does anyone know if Christ Church is putting a big emphasis on grades?

Thanks everyone,
Cheers

Ok, I'm up for that.

Predicted 3A at A-level, very preferably with one of them in maths. Mostly A at GSCE, with a decent number of A*.
The TSA is very important.

I think it's got quite a bit more popular in the last few years, so maybe 3/4 ?

No, as long as you have AAA prediction; your TSA score is likely to be the deciding factor.

I don't but I should think the answer is "as above".

Thanks you guys for answering.

I am not a brittish student, I am from Sweden.

Here we have the grades: IG, G, VG, MVG, where MVG is the best.
I have 4* VG and 15* MVG.

Could that have harmed my chances?

No Oxford will accept I imagine, Swedish qualifications are likely to be respected. Check the website anyway.

According to:
http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate_courses/international_students/international_qualifications/index.html
what is wanted is:
Sweden Avgangsbetyg with grades of MVG (excellent) in the majority of subjects.
So your line-up looks OK to me.
