Read the admissions website.

It says:
Two A levels out of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics are the minimum provided that you are happy with a restricted choice of courses in the first year.
http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/natsci/requirements.html

Check the papers that you want to take and their requirements on this page before finalising your decisions:
http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/natsci/part1a.html

So based on that site, with what I will have I should be able to do Biology, Chemistry and Computer Science, as well as Maths which is compulsory.

Thanks : )
It kind of pisses me off when people ask if they have the right A-levels to apply to so and so university, when there is tons of info about the uni's entry requirements on their website normally!

And OP- I don't think Computing bodes too well for Nat Sci, it's a bit of a random one, you would have had more of a chance doing Physics, or Computing AS instead of Biology! Give it a go and apply anyway, you've got nothing to lose.

I'm doing computing A level... Not quite sure what you mean...

And yeah I know, sometimes I get pissed off with people like me, but I just wanted to be a bit more sure, because I was getting different views from the prospectus and the website, and figured it would help to ask actual people too.

Ah, yeah - well, I do kind of wish I did my A levels a lot differently, but hey ho. I wish I'd have done something like chem, bio, maths, f maths. Was going to do further maths this year, but decided I wanted to do bio (so I could get onto some medicinal chemistry courses) and they clashed so I had to pick one.

My personal statement was also 100% focused on Chemistry. I even wrote which field of Chemistry I would like to work in. But guess what- I only got one Chemistry question in both of the interviews. One interviews was more like Maths/Materials + one Chemistry question and the other one was Physics/Maths. And I had to take a 30-minute Maths test before them. But I also wrote I had participated in the International Chemistry Olympiad so they perhaps wanted to see how good/bad I was in other scientific subjects...
My UMS in all my subjects at AS level were pretty high and I got 4a's, but I only study two science related a levels (Maths and Chemistry) with my other two being Geography and History.

I plan to study Comp science, maths, chemistry and Materials & Minerals - none of which I think require anything other than chemistry and maths.

However, I am wondering whether you guys could tell whether there is much point in me applying as I only have two science A levels and whether it would be much point taking an extra science as level instead of a fourth a level. Has anyone got an offer to Cambridge with only two science a levels????

Thanks
Dan

I have 4A*s 3As and 2Bs at GCSE (My GCSE results were the highest in the school)
My A/s results were As in English Lit, Politics and History
In my early entry A2s I got an A in Philosophy and an A in Mathematics
I completed my EPQ and got a distinction
I take part in community service, am a prefect and captain of the badminton team.
I go to an inner city academy and would like to apply to study PPE, however most people i have heard have about 6-10 A*s at GCSE and i will be the first in the family to go to university.
Essentially am i good enough?

My GCSE's were the best in my school, do people think Oxford would care? I could get my tutor to mention it on my reference?
Hey all,
I got 5 A's at AS, the science subjects are:
Maths
Further Maths
Chemistry
Physics

I would like to apply for Nat Sci at Cambridge, and do a mixture of courses, from the prospectus I have seen that some have no specific essential requirements.

Would
Math
Further Math
Chemistry

At A2 be enough to make a competitive offer for Natural Sciences?
Many thanks,

The course requirements state:
Two A levels out of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics are the minimum provided that you are happy with a restricted choice of courses in the first year.

Therefore, the subjects you propose are fine as long as you have checked that you have all the required subjects fro the Part 1A papers you want to take - check this on the following page:
http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/natsci/part1a.html

If you want a stronger combination, do Maths, Chemistry and Physics instead. Your choice though.

Thanks.

I looked through the part1a options and worked out that I could do most of them with this combination (including the Physics one if I do 3 Mechanics modules with my Further Maths). However I was a little concerned that somebody with Math, Chem, Phys would look better. Is there a significant benefit to doing four A levels?

On my Ucas form in the 'Additional Details' section, should I put 'Physical' or the Part1a subjects that I want to do?
rosa.s.
Well i specifically say about wanting to do a degree in "philosophy, politics, and economics.". Do you want me to PM my statement to you? I think you'll be OK for Philos and Pol degrees, but you might find it more difficult to get excepted for Int'l Relations & Politics. I did get rejected from UCL for ESPS (3 year) because of my PS not being relevant to the course.

That would be great, thanks- I'd really appreciate it!

rather game than revise

You dont need to specify Biological or Physical on your UCAS form, theres a section on the SAQ to put this down. With regards to options, my college (Churchill) sent a form that I had to fill in, before interview, specifying what options I intended to take. Not sure if this is the same at all colleges tho.
Hope this helps

Hi,

for my AS I got AAAB. The B was in Maths and basically because of 1 module :frown:.

C1 85%
C2 79%
M1 48% ****ing E.

Im pretty bummed. Has this screwed my chances of applying for cambridge? Obviously I will resit for my other uni's but do I stand much chance I've heard cambridge hate resits. And I cant lie on my SAQ, and even if I do decide to have a gap year, and improve my other subjects that E is always going to go against me, right?

I dont have any excuses at all to be honest, i just messed up. Have many of you had to resit modules that were this bad? Im really stuck. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks

No harm in applying, say you're retaking, get your teacher to predict you an A, be amazing at interview.

edit: you might also want to consider retaking C2.

If you're biological you're probably alright, if you're physical you're pretty screwed
Reply 4656
Do many people who resit 3 or so modules get in? Do all uni's know if you resit?

I heard that cambridge arent really against resiting, just as long as it doesnt mean you take 3 years to get the grades. Not that Im encouraging numerous resits. Is this true?
To all bio natscis that did an written test at interview e.g. St Johns:

Could you possible elaborate on the content of these tests? I'd expect them obviously to be geared more towards an AS/ early A2 sort of level but are they hardcore sciencey questions that test your knowledge or something similar to the 'how science works' thats being implemented in the current syllabus? Examples of this could be like analyzing a table or commenting upon setting up an experiment or something..

Thanks in advance!

i am unsure whether i could apply to cambridge instead for economics instead of PPe at Oxford

You could. You shouldn't, but you could.

Hi everyone,

I'm considering applying for PPE, but the one thing putting me off is how well I'll handle economics; I haven't done A-level maths or economics, but I did get an A* in GCSE maths, so I am at least numerate

The prospectus simply says that mathematics is recommended, but an Oxford History graduate who I know suggested that it was very difficult for people to get a place (and succeed) without a strong mathematical background.

What's your opinion?

Thanks.
