Hi, I've applied for Natural Sciences (Physical) at St Catharine's, with the intention of specialising in Chemistry. My personal statement is focussed on Chemistry, as this is what I applied for elsewhere. I have an interview but am wondering: what kind of questions can I expect? I don't do A2 Physics by the way..
There's a sample video on the Emmanuel College website... Chemistry based NatSci.

What about if I haven't been given a preparatory study? Also should I be revising much Maths, or is graph sketching and calculus asked of just prospective Engineers and Physicists?

I've been wondering about the same thing actually. I am applying for Chemical Engineering via NatSci. Physics at A-level or equivalent is not a requirement for this course(although I do take physics), but all my interviewers are physicists... Can I exspect just physics questions? 'Cause I kind of hope to get some chemistry and mathematics as well, more confident on that at the moment... King's college, by the way.

Well thankfully both of mine are Chemists, though the first is also undergraduate admissions tutor for Natural Sciences (Physical) in general. My college seem to suggest that we'll be asked general science questions.....

What are you doing to prepare? And what A levels are you taking?

I'm an international, not taking A-levels, but my subjects are:
Dutch, English, Mathematics, Latin, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French and Philosophy. Haha, seems very many compared to A-levels, but on the other hand, my knowledge on the science subjects is probably behind Home-students because they're more specifically focussing on them...

But the general science questions thing sounds good to me, I hope that's going to be the way it's done. I really can't motivate myself to do any preparations right now... Although I should:rolleyes:

Yeah, me neither about the preparation. Have you read any books/magazines?

hi
I've applied for NatSci too. My interviewers are all specialised exactly in what I said I was interested in. I don't really know what to expect from the interviews.Do you think they'll be asking me questions based on my coursework from last year/this year (I studied in Germany for a year I did well but still it was another language...) or will we talk only about what I said in my PS.. and about the essay and the books and articles I've read.

What did you do for your interviews until now :s-smilie:? Mine are next week already and I'm starting to panic..sorry for the long post .

Oh no, I have no idea either. I've not really done preparation specifically for this interview. I guess it's possible they could ask any of those things..

It's unlikely you'd have to talk in great detail about anything in your PS - it should only be in the general interview, which doesn't last all that long and has other things as well.
Just got my first PPE offer!!!! Sooooo pleased. Its from York and I require AAA as opposed to the standard offer (maybe its more competitive this year?) I've felt so deprived recently with all my friends getting their offers; its so good to finally have one!!!

Interview at Hertford. The stress from prep though! Jeez! Anyone else think the worst bit is having no idea what they're going to ask?

If that's still the worst bit this time next week, then maybe you'll have a place!

I just went with.... you have no idea what they're going to ask you, so there's no point in trying to prepare. Which was true. Mostly.

Awesome, I'm Brittany, might see you round  I hope they're going to organise some stuff for us to do - else I'll go out of my mind with worry. Had a mock interview today with a Hertford PPE Grad which was mildly reassuring.

edaaar has also got an interview (y)

I'd bring a pack of cards if I were you. I don't know what Hertford will be like but at my interviews we spent the time we didn't have actual interviews just chatting and playing cards/board games. You'll probably have something organised for the last night you're there but basically you're left to stew.:p: A bottle of vodka for your final night might make you popular too.
