Hey,

I want to contact the PPE admissions tutors, but I would prefer to address the email by name rather than "to whom it may concern", or simply "the admissions department".

Does anybody know the name of the PPE admissions tutors? I presume there is one for each college, rather than a single person in charge.

Thanks

You can probably find them on the college websites.

I'm looking on the Balliol website atm; so far I've only managed to find a list of tutors and the modules they teach...

They want you to send admissions queries to [email protected]. You won't be able to email by name, at least initially.

OK, I had the email address already; I just wanted to know who to address the email to. Looks like I'll have to go for something generic

Thanks anyway!

I am an undergraduate in commerce (B.com) from the University of Calcutta (India). I want to pursue a second undergrad degree, this time in PPE at Oxford University. I secured top grades in my first degree. I did apply for PPE last year at OXford but my application was unsuccessful. Since I am really determined to take up this course I will be applying again this year. I need guidance so that my application is successful this time around. I am 22 now and working in India. I have written my sop but it is not shaping up the way I want it to. Thanks a lot......

Did you get rejected pre- or post-interview? (sorry, that question sounds really blunt, but I can't think of another way to phrase it). I'm happy to help if there's anything in particular.
What are the most competitive colleges outside of balliol for PPE?

I don't intend on playing the numbers game I am just interested to know.

I was alos wandering what colleges people could recommend as I'm not going to be able to visit Oxford at all before I apply.

In general, the higher up the Norrington table and the more famous and pretty, the more competitive the college is.
A good way of choosing if you can't visit is to make a list for yourself of things you want. Think accomodation, age of buildings, size, number of PPEists, anything that's important to you. All that information is available online, so find it and make a list of colleges that have all the things you want. Then look at their websites, read their prospectus and alternative prospectus, etc, and pick one.

Thanks.

I've had a look at several things and my instinct is saying Brasenose for some reason, although I'm worried about it being too competitive. Wadham looks attractive too. Oh jeez i can't tell.

Do you have any idea how much it will damage my application not having Maths at A2? I did study it at SQA Higher though.

Hi there, I know that these threads are repetitive but please can you guys give me some advice anyway! Well I am just starting my AS year and have chosen to do English Literature, Maths, French and Economics. I was planning on doing history but I was given an awful teacher and the school are telling me that there is nothing that they can do and it's just tough luck. So I decided to let it go and I've decided to do French instead. Do you think that I still stand a good chance of reading PPE at Oxford even though I don't have History if I read sufficiently around the three subjects? Bear in mind that my GCSEs were good enough (9A*s 3As) and I should be able to get 4 high As in my AS Levels as long as I work.
Thanks a lot.
Not having History isn't that big of a problem. Make sure you keep Maths to A2 and you're completely fine.

Make sure you get an A in maths and those are pretty solid A-levels. I'd also advise keeping everything through to A2, or if you have to, drop English or French.
Anyone give me any advice about Trinity College for PPE and as a place to study?
good question, what about not having as or a2 maths? biiig damage?

Some damage, definitly. Especially Econ tutors can make a fuss about it. But not something that will rule you out entirely. As long as whatever you do have in Maths has a high grade, you should still have a shot. A high score on the TSA, especially the mathsy part, can really help to make up for a lack of Maths.

Hi everybody,
today I called the British Council in order to get more info about the TSA. They said me it costs 160 euros... :eek3: is that normal? I mean... English students don't pay anything (as it's written on the website), and I understand that we should pay a little fee because it's not a "common" exam to take but... why SO much?
I paid something similar to take the test in Amsterdam. It's expensive but the centre is pretty much allowed to charge whatever they want, to pay for the location, the person watching you, etc. One way around it would be to have your school register as a centre, but you'd need to convice them to have someone watch you when you take the test, plus there's some paperwork, so wheter that's an option depends on your school.
I paid €180 and a bit for the BMAT at my local British Council. It's just the way it is. The international test fee is higher, they charge you fed-ex costs, space rental and the cost of the invigilator. Studying in the UK is expensive and this is just a drop in the sea compared to the costs you're looking to incur during your course. Make sure you keep proof of payment - my BC was unable to find my payment until I presented proof :/ .

I payed (or rather will pay) 40€ for taking the TSA in a centre in Kiel, Germany. I was rather abashed by the quite high "maintenance fee", but now that I read about your 160-180€, I'm not so sure about that anymore...

Hey, I'm thinking of applying to do PPE at Oxford next year. I go to a tiny secondary school on a tiny island in scotland so unfortunately subjects like philosophy, politics and economics (!) arent available.

This year (S5) I'm doing;

Higher English
Higher Maths
Higher Physics
Higher History
Higher French
Advanced Higher Gaidhlig

and predicted A for all...

Next year I think I'll do;

Advanced Higher Maths
AH Physics
AH English
AH History
AH French

and hopefully all A's too. Fingers crossed.

Do you think Oxford will discriminate against me for never having studied even one of PPE subjects formally? I reckon I'm reasonably well-versed in the three from reading widely and being a news junkie but, will my more or less unrelated Highers (harder than AS level but easier than A Level) and Advanced Highers (essentially Tartan A Levels) count against me???

The only thing I can think of doing is maybe in S6 doing an economics module thru the Open Univeristy to beef up my application form. I know a guy who did a bit of Human Biology for his medicine application cos our school is so tight on subject choice. So maybe instead of AH French next year I should collect various modules in economics philosophy etc "to demonstrate my passion for PPE"

I am passionate about all three subjects but I dont know and my school aint got a clue the best way forward for applying to Oxford PPE.

Any help / advice would be much appreciated.
