Do you think you can apply for Politics, Philosophy and Law succesfully with a PPE statement or is it that just for Law students?

Hi .. im applying for PPE this year at oxford.
Re-applying actually.

deciding between jesus, pembroke and christ church.

thought the oxford thread had too much chat about other degrees so i made thisone.

does anyone know if any of those 3 colleges have public/private school preferences??
As far as I'm aware, no college deliberately tries to pick more public/private, they just go for the best people who apply. The reason that some colleges have higher rates of public school/private school pupils, generally speaking, is because more public school/private school individuals applied to that particular college.

That said, Jesus is 58% state school, Pembroke is 44% state school, and Christchurch is 47% state school, as an average between 2005-2007, so it looks like Jesus would be your best bet if you want state school company, or Pembroke if you want private school company.
I'm applying for PPE at Oxford too!
Where else are you applying?
I'm about to start second year of PPE at New College so feel free to fire away with any questions you might have!

urm... warwick durham for certain... then i was thinking
UCL and LSE... pe and pp respectively...
but i was told i should have a back up... so maybe york instead of ucl or lse...
i really dont know..!!! i need advice.
my grades are decent but i dont wanna get rejed by all on my reapplication...

Durham is harder to get into than York for ppe, in fact its even harder than oxford at least, i got rejected by them. And they're both 3as, so even though you may feel confident in your exams, it all depends on tehy day so try not to have 3A offer as back up- too risky.
lse has THE MYTH surrounding how they positively discriminate against eu and uk applicantts in favour of overseas cause of the extra dough they pay, so even thouh grade requirements may be lower its still a toughie.
Warwick asks for A* for PPE.
Manchester PPE is a very very safe back up and ask for AAB with the possibilty of adding up two as for a full a level equivalent. But also consider if you would like living in the cities where the universities are at

No colleges have preferences, it might sound like a cliche but they really do just do it off academic merit and whether they think you're teachable.
I went to my local comp but I don't think that was ever a factor in their decisions. If someone's good enough and the tutors like them, then they're going to get an offer end of.
New College definitely has a good proportion of state schoolers, about half the ppeists in my year went to state school i think.
And new college has some of the best accom in the uni, almost every room has en suite and all pretty well sized. A lot of the lecturers for ppe are at new as well so that's another bonus.
You don't need to worry about interview now, focus on your application and doing well on the TSA. Once you've done the tsa do quote me again though to remind me and i'll give some interview advice.
Also feel free to ask any other qs now as well

Applying to Hilda's just for the river..

Statistically durham is now A*AA (and so is york ) while oxford remains AAA. Well despite that I still think ox applicants will have got more A*s than durham applicants:s-smilie:

I'm hoping the grades won't matter too much at Oxford...! My tutor said that when she worked in admissions they used to just read the first paragraph of the personal statement and then glance at your grades. If either one is outstanding or both are good then you've got an interview - and the interview is where the decision is really made! :s-smilie: no pressure then...
