What sort of other things could I do to boost my application?
I have completed the Oxford PPE reading list as well as a variety of related books out of pure interest.
I have completed work experience at the House of Commons.
I am the Vice-President of our school Leos club.
I have achieved distinction in Grade 5 piano.

What else do you think would prepare me well for applying or would you say I am fairly on track?

You've completed the PPE reading list? Somehow I don't quite believe you, because that's a fear not achieved by most PPE graduates :erm:

What I mean is I have completed the suggested reading list for PPE as given on the Oxford Univeristy website. It also says read a good quality newspaper everyday and I read the Times everyday.

Extra-cirruculars and work-experience won't hold much weight with Oxford because they know the majority of people who get good work-experience get it because of family connections. Also, being 'Vice-President' and Grade 5 on piano won't help you secure a place either.

Sounds pretty good - I would now concentrate on academic stuff. If you interview well and get good ASs then you sound like an ideal candidate.

It's a shame the AEA went out - it was perfect for people who needed extra academics - but make sure you ace your A-levels, and look for as many ways to impress as possible. Perhaps enter some prestigious essay competitions, and read some undergraduate books. In fact, read as much as you can, both in terms of deep content and in terms of summary overviews. You can't do too much. But don't neglect your A-levels!

Do you have any suggestions of particular essay competitions because I have always enjoyed essay subjects and would be interested to enter?

The Horror ! well I guess having Tory parents and voting Tory is not as bad
as being working class benefiting from tons of social programmes and then trying your best to destroy them as an adult

EPQ is a good alternative to AEA (someone's got a long memory - I think they were ended c.2008!)

We can be old together :console: (though I started my AS in 2008, so I suspect you're older than me!)

I 100% agree, I am in complete agreement concerning these frivolous state handouts. I am in many ways, grateful for my middle class right wing background.
You have to remember its a top subject at the top institution. So it's all As as AS or nothing really. On top of that, you need to have done a lot of reading as Oxford personal statements are more academic based, and you need to be able to talk about your reading at the interview. Just remember it's not all about grades
I'm applying this October.

Yes I agree, I have read quite widely around all three subjects. I have always been interested in Thatcherism and have just started to tackle Hayek's 'The Road to Serfdom'. I read one of Thatcher's biographies aged 7 (my teacher eventually ripped it up).

Ripped it up? Gosh what ever happened to free speech. But very nice! Keep doing your reading, and I hope your endeavours are fruitful
I'm coming into the straight with my GCSE courses, with targets of all A*s. I would love to study PPE at Oxford or one of the other Russell//Ivy League unis. What A-levels are recommended?
Oh my God, I'm thinking of applying for PPE at Oxford next year
I messaged them and they say that A level Maths is highly recommended, however Philosophy and Economics are not compulsory as not all Sixth Forms offer these as a course
Ah right cool. Yeah I read that it was recommended to do Maths. What subjects are you taking? It is just cool to find a girl that is interested in the course too; I hear it is very male saturated
As well as somebody that actually spells God with the capital :^_^:

Just make sure that you don't fluff up your English Language or Maths exams, they are very very very important when applying to the top universities such as Oxford and Cambridge!
At the moment I'm taking: Physics, Maths & Mechanics, Further Maths and German - All of which are quite nice and level headed however German is the spawn of Satan.
Yeah, well, I like to be a rebel :charm:. Before I decided I want to take PPE, I wanted to do Computer Science, which, as you can probably gather, is predominantly male....I can't ever win *cry*
