Oxford PPE (Philosophy, Politics and Economics) Students and Applicants

Haha man I can totally relate, if German is the spawn of the Devil, then French is the Devil's advocate. I'm taking Maths, French, Geography and English lit. which I think sets me up nicely. Good luck with your application! Admittedly I was thinking about French at Uni because my teacher said that when he was at Birmingham there was a ratio of 3:1 but I've gone for the more useful, male orientated one. Maybe I'm rebelling against my need for there to be loads of girls? I don't know but it is such a subject, like just saying to people 'I did PPE at Oxford' puts you in a whole different realm *epic winning* **awesome**

I've absolutely no idea, if I do really well in the TSA then I hope I'm in with as much of a chance as others.

I got 11A*s at GCSE. I haven't sat my AS exams yet, but I hope I'll do well in those.

Well done, I am about to sit my GCSE's and I think I will get 8A*'s and 3A's. I have also done level 3 algebra and level 3 statistics.

Hopefully my experience and wider reading will stand me in good stead.

I'm coming into the straight with my GCSE courses, with targets of all A*s. I would love to study PPE at Oxford or one of the other Russell//Ivy League unis. What A-levels are recommended?

doesnt really matter for PPE but I would say maths, economics, history, and another like politics or english
For PPE, I'd take Maths, History, Economics, and a foreign language.

Also make sure that you actually like the course, and aren't just going for it because "it's PPE at Oxford".
Do a science. Unis love sciences like chemistry

I'm applying to Oxford for PPE 2015.
I think I'll get AABC (but will be resitting the C in June 2015) at AS and hoping for AABB prediction at A2 so PPE is going to be a far stretch but it could do doable, I guess.

Anybody else applying or got any tips?

At A2 the grade requirement is AAA, so with AABB predictions you will be automatically ruled out. Also, there is absolutely no need to take four at A2, you'd be better off taking three and aiming to meet the requirements.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I could go about it. I'm retaking the C at A2 so I'll get an A but they I doubt they will take that into consideration beforehand.
And I know somebody who did 6 AS levels (and got an AABBCE, with the E in politics) and still got to an interview.
It'll come down to the TSA mostly I think, if the grades are close.

I'd just drop the C and leave it, unless it's in something like maths. You could get in with those grades if your GCSEs/TSA/interview etc are ok. Just take three and aim for as high predictions as possible - retaking a C to get an A won't really matter, but not meeting their basic requirements will matter a hell of a lot.

But the basic requirements will depend on my predictions, which I'm quite confident will be AABB, so AABB would look better than just AAB, right?

...If I've understood what you're trying to say right, i think you just haven't understood what the grade requirements are. http://www.ppe.ox.ac.uk/index.php/applying-for-ppe clearly states that the grade requirements for A levels are AAA - this is whether you take three or thirty A levels. With AABB you do not meet that, and you WILL be rejected. Take three, not four, try and get predicted at least 3 As. It's as simple as that.

Like I said above, I know somebody who only got 2 As at AS (from AABBCE) and they got an interview, but then unfortunately rejected. You have to bear in mind the AAB would only be my predictions and not my final grades, they could accept them and just give me an unconditional of AAA.
As long as I ace the TSA then I might be in with a chance.
