I think you shouldn't care too much about the time limit. The essay should show your ability to reason precisely nothing else. Even if your essay will lack of the final conclusion, it should be still enough to provide a line of well-connected arguments. Given that the conclusion should be nearly self-evident...
I think these guys of cambridge assessment wanted to add just another stress factor to assess whether we will be able to resist the pressure...

after all it's just two hours of concentration and after that everything should be all right ^^

I don't expect anyone knows the answer to this but just in case: How exactly does the marking process work? Does it go to Cambridge Assessment who pass the score to Oxford, or do Oxford see your paper (and therefore may ask you about your essay at interview)?

If they do just get sent a score I hope it's separated into the TSA and the essay.

TSA marks section 1. The essay is marked by Oxford. Is somewhere on their website...

Ahh I think I'm going to fail tomorrow. I definitely need more time for the tasks, I am not quick enough obviously. I won't achieve more than 50 percent tomorrow, definitely. I really hope they don't care much about the test...

ahh dont you just love the quantitative logic, basically andy question 12 asks for how many miles do both the price plans come up with the same price.

Priceplan1 (PP1) = £50 up until 80 miles , then 1 pound for each mile
PP2 = flat rate of 60pounds, and 0.5 for every mile travveled

therefore when miles = 100, price of PP1 = 50 + (100-80) = 50 plus 20 = 70
price of PP2 = 60 + (0.5X100) = 60 plus 40 = 100 therefore a is not the right awnser

instead of going through all the options ill go straight to E, which is when miles is 180

price of PP1 = 50 + (180 - 80) = 150
price of PP2 = 60 + (o.5 X 180) = 60 + 90 = 150 therefore E is right awnser

question 18 have no awnser i took the wildest guess

and question 32 you divide the options by the number of minutes, and the awnser is the smallest option in which you get a whole number when u divide that number by the number it takes each lighthouse to reflash.

24 and 38 stumped me totally, anyone got any ideas?

thanks. here is my answer for 38:

u have 2x30 + 2x20 + 4(sides) x2 = 108 cm for the first book

Then, it says "a second piece...several copies of the book back cover to front cover" so you already know the second parcel will have the same
length and width as the first one BUT not the same height. you know that the height for the first parcel is 2x4=8

you have 24 cm of string left so you divide that by 8 which gives you 3 books, each on top of the other. but u also know that you only have 24 cm of string left because you used 8 cm calculating the first parcel.so you discount those 8 cm, add them to 24 (the string left doesnt include the 8cm) which gives you 32. Now, u divide 32 by 8 cm( height for each book) and you will get 4 Books.
Sheesh, people are up late worrying about this test huh? If only! I'm doing my essay :\
So. I personally found the multiple choice not too bad, and the essay I spent three minutes deciding which question to do, which turned out to be a real mistake, because I had a rushed conclusion - given two more minutes I could have had a polished one.

All in all I think I did well on the multiple choice, average on the essay (I did the fear question by the way).

That is so similar to how I found it! Multiple choice was good, finished with about 15-20 minutes spare to check and am pretty confident. On the essay however I was majorly caught in two minds between whether to do irrational fear (which I have just been reading about this week) or freedom of speech (which I am more interested in). After too long deliberating I plumped for the latter, but then I wrote too slowly (due to concentrating very hard on my sentence structure) and my conclusion was rushed. Hopefully first impressions matter more than last impressions though!

hey hey! yeah same, the essay was pretty mediocre for everyone tho (6 people in my year are applying).
Reply 772
Budgie, I ended up doing the Irrational Fear one because I've been reading abou it too. I don't remember the Freedom of Speech one though. What did that one ask?
im the opposit to you guyz i think i did badly on the multiple choice, i ran outta time and had to guess the last 5 questions... but the writing went great i did the one about patriotism and i think it went well

which do you think is the most important?
anyone else think the mucked the TSA up? who did the one on patriotism?
Hmm, the multiple choice seemed alright though I felt a little pressed for time and am not sure I was in theright frame of mind for the last questions :s. I did the freedom of speech essay but don't think they'll like what I did! Ah well, what ya gonna do...
i don't remember the free speech one only the following ; One about advertising and companies....

One about fear ...
one about patriotism in schools...
Reply 776
I guess it was the patriotism in schools then. Did that mention freedom of speech, or what did that one ask?
Reply 777
Odd, the first option on mine what "Freedom of speech should not extend to speech which is despicable", or something similar. The second one was regarding irrational fear of flying, and I can't remember the third.

Did the papers vary? :s-smilie:
no it didn't it was about the positives of patriotism, the negatives, why partiotism is useful ? ... what is partiotism... nothing to do with free speech

We must have had different papers then! Did anyone else have one about "despicable" speech?
