hmm... my method was pretty much the same as yours.

As for your reasoning.... you've used 112 steps. I'm not sure about that
100 / 0.9 = 111.11111
which means that the 112th step falls past 100m.
To cover 100m, yes, he'd need to take 112 steps. But I think the question asked: 'how many times do the right feet land together over 100m'. So I think you should have discounted that 112th step, because that landed 100.8m away from the starting point, which was outside the range.

Obviously, I might be remembering the question incorrectly, but that's my take

Interesting question indeed!

Very good point! If it did say that then you are right.

Reading the posts I just found out that Oxford marks the essay questions. I must say, I entirly messed that one up. I picked the one about advertisement and put far too much into the gerenarl concept and pupose and then I freaked out when having 5 more miutes only, and I afterwards I really felt that that was it about Oxford for me this year.
I gues the topic was too complex and too appealing to me which is why I tried to put in too much ending up with noothing.
When does Oxford receive the essays then? After the interviews? Do you think, if they like you in the interview and read your crappy essay after that that's a reason for definitely being rejected. Or is it less important this year since we are "guinnea pigs".

I'd be happy with a calming yet honstet answer...

Sorry to I bother you. Did you receive an offer from york for pep already? I applied as well and am a bit disappointed because I did not get an answer yet... That's a bad sign isn't it? :frown: Got an offer from Manchester days after sending my ucas application... but no york/warwick yet...

At least you have written something that is called an "essay". I have even not managed to write half a page, since I erased many paragraphs I have written...I am an idiot, I know...

If this test really counts, I will be rejected.
Some multiple choice questions (critical thinking ones) were good. Found some of the problem solving ones quite time-consuming though.

Interesting that some applicants had different essay questions, I had the fear/freedom of speech one. I did the first question purely because it was the one I found most interesting. Everyone else I know did that question too!
I spent about 10 mins planning and then wrote for about 20 mins. I though that way I would keep it slick, concise and not waffly. Thank God for history A-level - taught me how to write fast!

I have a feeling I did below average though. I hope I get an interview so I can redeem myself :s-smilie:
what questions can everybody remember from the multiple choice?

the one with the two boats, did they meet at st pauls boat house? the 2.5 miles point from the left and 2 mile point from the right...

Calm down. I'm exactly the same, and whilst I'm nervous about what offer I'm going to get - be realistic; it isn't a bad sign that they haven't responded yet. I think Manchester is just particularly quick.

If you say 'offer', then do you mean an invitation for an interview or an offer as in a direct place in Manchester?

I applied to Man as well and got an interview invitation quite recently.

conditional offer. i'd actually have rather had an interview id like all the practice i can get haha
I answersed 47/50 properly then the strides one and the last 2 i ticked random boxes because i didnt have the time to work them out.

I would be pleased if i got around 35/50, though in all honesty i think im around 28-33 mark.

Oh aryt then i guess i misunderstood
ha no worries. how did you do today?
Hmm, after reading over all the debate over the footsteps one I wonder if I did alright on the test. I think all the logicy mathsy ones I did alright - but the text analysis, not so much.. Stupid questions on flouride toothpaste - the forget to realise that I don't care :p:

As for footsteps, I was silly enough to spend a great deal of time on things like this and then the last qusetion doing calculations about bloody peanut butter. I went for a-27, as it was when their right feet land together over the course of 100m (so no point to round up to 28, their starting on the same foot I didn't count either - and I think 56 and 58 where if you cuonted when the L and R feet came together). Took 3.6m for it to happen, and agree with that above ones.

I didn't realise the roundabout Q was on the right hand side of the road! But don't suppose it would have mattered as there are the same number or turn offs and taking away a 3rd each times.. I ended up with like 8 (well remember taking 4 off of 12 for the third exit anyway.. I wonder why there weren't any cars that stayed on after missing their exits :p:)?

The boats Q, I forget the city name, but it was one to the right of the central city (from my guessing :P). 9 and 9 with 1 current gave ratio of 10:8, 5:4, 2.5:2 - and the city (I think it was the boathouse, Iono) was exactly 2 miles along from the right hand side or whatever - but I went and wasted time working out it was 2.5 miles from the LHS too :s

But all this does make it seem like we had the same test yes. My essay SUCKED but what you gonna do.. Hope the college I've chosen puts less weight on that than propperly thought out written work
