Hey guys,

this is for a college student, not a uni one, but basically the same.

I have a friend who moved to new zealand for a year with his mother, hated it, and has decided to come back, and hes managed to get a place with his grandparents, but its quite far away from the college and he'd be prefer to rent.

It's only my dad and myself in a three bedroom house, so we have a spare room, and hes enquired about renting it, but we dont have much of a clue about how much to charge him, anybody got any ideas?

to help out a bit,

He would pay for his own furniture
He could use the internet for free
I think the main factors he would have to pay for, bar the actual renting of a room are:
cost of electricty(as about the only thing he'll use himself is a light in his room, and occasionaly the tv and computer)
cost of water(minute i imagine)
cost of heating for shower/bath
food

sorry thats meant to say 'tenant in house' haha

Is this about tenting or renting?
Renting my friend, sorry about that, I misspelled the title.
well the rent for the room would probably be about £50 a week, that's what most of my friends have paid for rooms in bedsits.

estimate just under 1/3 of the bills for him, then work out how much everything goes up by if and when he moves in?
so is that 50 pound including bills or both 50 quid + 1/3 of bills?

thanks for reply btw
£50 for the room then + 1/3 of the bills (or just under)
I was gonna say, why would you want to put up a tent in a house?
thanks death.drop, much appreciated

for 2 months last year i slept in a tent in my room. and then when i got sick of sleeping on the floor and having no room to walk around i cut a big cross in the bottom of it and put it over my bed so i had a bed tent.

tents rule.
Aha. Why?
because they're all tent-y.

how does anyone not like tents? :frown:

All the way until the last line I was wondering "What does this have to do with tents?"

Do you guys think I have a chance of getting into the PPE program at Oxford.

2190 SAT:

790 Math
730 Critical Reading
670 Writing

SAT II's
800 on Math 2
800 on US History

GPA=3.969, all A's except a B in Calc

All 5's on AP's
World History
Biology
Chemistry
English Language
Spanish Language
US History
European History
Calculus BC
AP Music Theory

I know they don't look at EC's per se, but I participate in policy debate extensively. Policy debate subjects are nearly identical to PPE in that you are constantly debating the year's resolution from economic, philosophical, and political standpoints.
Maybe take SAT's again just in case, and focus on the writing? It's a safer bet if you get it in the 700's. Your AP's are gonna help you a ****load though. And write a good essay so you set yourself apart from others. So jealous of your AP's!

I have a couple questions:

Does everyone take this exam, or just those who are offered an interview?

Does anyone know where I can have find practice for the TSA exam, beside the practice on the webiste (like previous tests or something)?

Yeah, AP's are the only things really going for me.

I plan on retaking the SAT. However, the grades come in after applications are submitted. Should I put on the application two SAT grades, the one I have and a future predicted one?

Also, should I take more SAT II's?
You have solid numbers. I would think that it's all up to your interview at this point..

Oh.. No, you should put all 3. I don't think you should retake it then if it's not going to go on the application, but check with your counsellors? Did you take the ACT's? I dunno, I think having a billion AP's will make for it so I wouldn't be extremely worried; it's still a great SAT score.

A Yank at Oxford!?!

I haven't taken the ACT, but I think I do better on the SAT, because I took some ACT practice tests and haven't done too well.

On the oxford site it says that one should have 700+ on writing preferably, do you think it's that much of an issue?
