Economics isn't traditional but it is respected and so is Politics although Politics at AS is basic but at A2 its completely different and becomes tougher and more academic I am not trying to put you off Politics or anything but I have just finished AS and we have started looking at A2 and its a huge stepping stone.

They're chatting bull.
My brother originally got in to do maths and philosophy but swapped course to do PPE in the first term he was there.
He did English Lit, Physics, Philosophy, Maths and Further Maths for AS and then dropped English Lit for A2.
He said to me that Further Maths was extremely helpful as he used it in quite a lot of the economics modules. So basically, I get the impression that Maths is quite essential! But then again I don't know how flexible the degree is, it could be that you could just choose certain modules which would mean that you would never really have to do any maths at all.

So, in conclusion, this post isn't really very helpful, apologies!

Thats what I was thinking because my history teacher who graduated from Cambridge said it is as respected as History.
Personally I would recommend History, Maths, and two other decent subjects. Maybe throw a science in there as well.

You history teacher is correct. Politics is seen as the "weakest" becuase it is on trinity college, cambridge less preffered list. I don't know why everyone think economics and philosophy are lesser subjects.

It may be less preferred but, it's a subject I really think I'd find interesting, as with History, that's why they're two I definitely want to do.

I guess I can get a AS Maths revision guide and see if I think I can cope.. are past papers available just like as GCSE for AS?

But even if I do Maths, I really don't want to do Further Maths, which is what a lot of you are recommending.. The only reason I'd do Maths is for PPE, and if I couldn't get into it without Further Maths, then there would be no point doing Maths even!

It's so frustrating.. do you think I should wait till results day before thinking about this, or should I make my mind up before?

Basically, I definitely want to do History and Politics, and for the other two subjects my options are, English, Latin, Maths, Economics . From that, what do you think the best combination would be?

Thanks
Good bloke
You might want to think again about studying economics at undegraduate level then.

:ditto:

Maths is definitely looked for. Actually, one of my friends went to study PPE in LSE and had to obtain a 6 (out of 7) for IB Maths HL.

I love Politics and History equally to you which is why I am confused should I do History and politics or PPE. :p:

Looking at your subject choice I would definately do Maths, History, Economics and Politics.

Hope that helps.

LSE don't offer PPE

ARe you sure you didn't mean Governemnt and Economics.
if you don't have the skills in maths required to do economics why do you want to do PPE?
why don't you just do philosophy and politics?
I'm hoping to do PPE, and just trying to decide on my AS choices.. I know I definitely want to do History, and Politics, but can't decide on the other two subjects from the following: Economics, Latin, English, Maths

I realise Maths is important - a lot of people have said so in my other thread here and although I think I will scrape an A in GCSE Maths I don't think I will be able to cope at AS.

How important do you think it is (Maths AS/A Level) - do you know of anyone who got through to PPE at Oxford without Maths/Economics AS/A Level and found it difficult at GCSE?

Thanks very much in advance!

Maths is very important but further maths isn't so definately do maths. And then the last choice is your own but I would recomend Economics.

Have you thought about the History and Politics degree?

I guess it is an option, but all I hear is about PPE being the best for Politics etc.. so I'd really like to give it a go! I guess Maths wouldn't be necessary for History and Politics, but not sure if I'd be any more likely to get into that then PPE?

This was a few years ago. He was actually the brother of someone in my class, are you sure they didn't offer PPE back then either?
Politics, Philosophy & Economics and Maths I should think.

But its not about ease to get into it is about which one you will enjoy the most.

and History can't forget History.

I wanted to do 5 subjects P,P,E and maths and History.

But they only allow me to do 4, so I am in a bit of a pickle :s-smilie:
