Finished school, going to uni next year (to study engineering science), you?

Good luck word hard play hard

I am starting my A levels in September; History, Maths, Politics and either Philosophy or Economics. Then I hope to do PPE at Oxford or Government and Economics at LSE.

I guess it is an option, but all I hear is about PPE being the best for Politics etc.. so I'd really like to give it a go! I guess Maths wouldn't be necessary for History and Politics, but not sure if I'd be any more likely to get into that then PPE?

Won't the Politics from History and Politics be taught by the same people who teach it for PPE? Unless you mean it is the best for getting a political job. If it is the latter, then History and Politics is a relativity new degree, compared to PPE, so it does not have the same list of alumni (as their website says too), but I doubt it will be seen as any less suitable for a political job than PPE is.

Personally, if I thought I wouldn't be able to manage maths at AS then I'd go for History and Politics, as you get the politics without the maths, but then again it depends if you are interested in history too.

Yeah I am definitely interested in History. But it's just the Maths that worries me.. I wish there was a way of kind of seeing if I'd be able to cope with it at AS.

I do hope to get a job in politics, and that's why I was so interested in PPE.

I really do need to make my mind up if PPE is what I want to go for though, because then I'd need Maths as an AS Level but otherwise I could forget about Maths!

and History can't forget History.

I wanted to do 5 subjects P,P,E and maths and History.

But they only allow me to do 4, so I am in a bit of a pickle :s-smilie:

Oh yes sorry, and history.

I might meet you at Oxford then, you have any idea about what college yet?
Reply 1967
gosh. he doesn't have to decide the college until next year -_-

They're chatting bull.

Economics is not a traditional subject like Maths, it is actually quite modern but it is highly respected and I am sure I said that in my previous post

Ok, just go to the open day and have a look for which one feels best for you.

Good luck

If i get the grades for AS i'm going to apply to do PPE at Oxford. I do: Politics, Philosophy, Economics and History. I see this as a good combination. Maths would definately be useful but i couldn't stomach doing it for A level!
i would do maths, history, economics and a language... possibly politics as well.

Are you sure it is no Maths for AS Economics, because I heard there was some?!

Economics is something I'd find interesting to be honest..b ut I'm worried that doing both Politics and Economics would be a bad idea? Are they both not considered "weaker" subjects?

I am taking both and they are both respected but Economics is more respected than Politics.

They are not traditional in the sense that they are not as old as Maths in the A Levels Curriculum

There is not much maths involved in Economics, I have rarely had to use a calculator in Economics but it usually depends on which part, for macro (the national economy) i have only used it once or twice, for micro (individual markets) i have used it about 3 or 4 times and for the housing market (module 3 could be environment or sport and leisure depending on what option your school decides to teach) i have never ever used maths.

ECONOMICS IS AS HIGHLY REGARDED AS HISTORY!!!!
So, do you think, History, Politics, Economics, then English/Latin would be a good combination for PPE or another Politics related course?

And also about economics, could someone TERRIBLE at Maths still get an A in it?

Now to decide between English and Latin...
