But what about if you had sex in the morning and then were sick and couldnt keep pills down? there might be some sperm lurking about.

There might be. In which case there is unfortunately not a lot you can do, if you really can't keep them down, the sperm are there already. Spermicide maybe? I would suggest emergency contraception, but if you can't keep the pill down, chances are you won't keep that down either.

I should point out that I have never heard of taking pills PV, and they are so small I find it hard to imagine how they would stay there long enough. Besides, the hormones in them do NOT kill sperm. I'll look that up.

my doctor mentioned it to me last time i was there, and it's not to kill the sperm, it's for if you have a stomach bug and can't keep it down, if you insert it up there the hormones will be absorbed.

maybe my doctor was fibbing!

I doubt they were fibbing, I just find it hard to imagine it working - the pill is only a tiny fraction hormones and the rest is sugar and filler, which your vagina would not be able to digest in order to get to the hormoney goodness!

I'll check when I'm back in my room with my books!

it's the quickest way to get things absorbed, isn't it? or is that just suppositries? ah well. it was only suggested as a last resort if you were really ill and sick for a few days in which case i don't imagine you'd be having much sex anyway!

Well, yes and no. It can be (that and the even yummier PR) but drugs administered that way are designed for it, whereas the pill is designed to be taken orally, and therefore has different substances in it. Plus, it's tiny, what if it fell out?!?

I suppose one solution (completely unfounded, so don't try this at home) would be just to hold it in your mouth until it dissolved if you can't swallow it. Might not taste nice though.

having checked with a gynae friend it is possible to take it PV, but obviously not preferable. and you should always check with a pharmacist first. also fairly obvious.

but it is possible if you are ill, and it's always good to know there's a back up plan for if you are ill.

re: the risk of it falling out, you could keep an eye out for it i guess?! just stand on your head for a few hours?!

I spose if you're that ill you'll most likely be in bed anyway? I looked in my books and they didn't say anything about it, I guess it's one of those things you learn later. I don't generally have problems like that though, so I'm not about to start experimenting with it!

have you heard about those hormone sticks you can get sugically inserted under the skin on your arm every 5 years?

If you've had sex recently and then you're ill you do need to take emergency contraception. If you can't swallow pills and keep them down then you can also have a coil fitted as emergency contraception, but you'd need to see your doctor

indeed. no form of contraception is 100% effective.

The only reason they say it isn't 100% is because some dumbass always puts in on wrong or rips it with his clumsy paws

we were mainly talking about hormonal contraception actually...but condoms can - and do - split occasionally, and that isn't due to human error.
