Hi, I know its an old post, but I was wondering what the accommodation is like in whatever halls of residence you were in and if you had any pictures. Also, what is the rental market like?

Thanks

Hi.

The accomodation is split into catered and self-catered. Catered halls are on campus and slightly older, with self-catered just behind the Uni. (5 minute walk). I only have experience of West Downs Student Village which one of the self-catered ones, and it was brilliant. Cleaners every other day, spacious rooms and kitchens, shop, 24 hour vending machines and site security, real community feel. If you apply for accomodation early and don't mind paying extra you could get en-suite like me. The new self-catered halls are Queens Road but as these were still being built when I started I couldn't comment. If you go to the University website and click on Accomodation you should be able to find some photos there, if not come along to one of the open days. Hope this helps.

As for the rental market, it's not cheap. Winchester is a desirable area to live and the prices reflect as such. It's worth shopping around. Most of the student population live in Stanmore housing estate which is just outside the town centre, where the houses are cheaper. Basically it's a compromise between distance from uni and town and how much you want to pay. If you want to pay less, look at properties a little further away from the town centre. At the moment I pay £362 but i'm like 5 mins away from the town.

Thank you, I have been unable to attend the open days as I have had problems occurring and have not had the time. What is the town centre like?

Thanks

No! The University of Winchester is such a bad university; it doesn't have too bad of a reputation but if you talk with previous students they warn you to stay away...I've been told so many stories about how unprofessional the staff are and how much work goes into anyone actually doing their jobs and it just sounds like such a terrible experience...I've heard good things about Southampton though  There are some good unis around. It just pays to check like you're doing!

Does anyone know about Winchester University? Is it a good one, and if yes, what's good about it?
