It depends on company policy. Where I work, you get a 30 minute break on an 8-hour shift, plus a 15 minute break if you're under 18.

I think the minimum break on an 8-hour shift that you're entitled to by law when you're under 18 is 20 minutes.
You're not entitled to any more than that unless you're U18 (I think, but don't quote me on that)

Some companies will let you have more, but they're not legally obliged to.

Well im reading my little tesco booklet thing and it says:

The table below describes the break entitlements for all employees excluding young workers (under 18):

Eight hours or more: 45 minutes

...
At the co-op we get 15 minutes paid break for 4.5-6.5 hours work, 30 mins unpaid for 7-8 hours and 1 hour unpaid and 30 minutes paid for 8+ hours. It's a weird system =S

aren't you supposed to get a break every 4 hrs? so half hour break for an 8hr shift is probs average..at least thats what it is at boots, even for under 18s.

It does work out at something like 15 minutes break for every 4 hours of work minimum. Anything on top is down to the employer and employee.

At matalan for an 8 hour shift you get two paid 15 minute breaks and an unpaid 30 minute break.
If you're under 18, then yes. But if you're over, then no. We get a 45 min unpaid break if we work over 6 hours :h:

Where I work (explore learning) its 4 hours shifts no break. 8 hours (full day = two shifts) you get a 30min break, i always take 40
Legally, the minimum is a 15 minute break for every 4 hours you work. For under 18s, I think it's 1hr break for every 4 hours worked.

I do 8:30-5, and get 1 1/2 hours of break (unpaid), so I work 7 hours with 1 1/2 hours break...
I thought it was 20 minutes for 8 hours for over 18 and 30 minutes for under. I get two ten minute breaks (paid) and an unpaid half hour for lunch. If I work more than 10 hours (we quite regularly do 12 hour shifts) we get an extra paid ten minutes.
I used to work 8-5, got an hour for lunch, and two 15 minute breaks.

Wasn't I the lucky one

Then I moved to paintball, where your 'break' is in between games, where you have to do 'customer interaction' and prepare for the next one...

Legally, it's actually 20 mins break for 6 hours. You don't need to get anything for less than that.
15 mins for every four hours.

Which means if you are working 7 hours and 45 minutes you only get 15 minutes break!
At Next I did four hour shifts and didn't get a break. With an extra half an hour I would've got a 15 minute break. Not that I really needed one, wasn't strenuous work.
Not sure, but I work at Gregg's and usually 7-8 hour shifts you get a morning break (15mins), lunch break (30 mins) then afternoon break (15mins).
i work ten hour shifts and get an hour and half:smile: in total, x2 15minutes and one hour
but it is all unpaid:/
