Leg Cramps

I woke up in the middle of the night last night with horrible cramps in my left calf. Cos I was so sleepy it took me a couple minutes to figure out how to make the cramps stop. When I woke up this morning my calf was in so much pain that I couldn't stretch the muscle. Fortunately it's got better throughout the day but it still aches.

I'm used to getting cramps in my foot when I point my toes too much, or when I'm swimming sometimes. But never my calf.

Does anyone know how and why it happens? And how can I prevent it, especially when I'm asleep?

Thanks  xx

Are you drinking enough water?

i drink a litre of water a day and probably two litres of diet coke, plus a few other things. i dont like the water down here, it's hard water and tastes dodgy, so i refuse to drink anything out of the taps!

I get this a lot, usually before my period and I have no idea why it happens, but it's agony. It's not nice jumping round your room at 2am shouting abuse.

I feel for you hun, sorry I can't help, but wanted you to know you're not alone.

Ooooh, I get that, it's so awful! And why is it always the left leg?
I hit it, it seems to work for me...
I actually haven't had it in a while now...

 tis nice to know i'm not alone, altho not nice becos it means other people are in agony as well!

i'll try punching it. i'm glad my bf wasn't here last night, the last time it happened he was here and thought i was a proper freak!

i LOVE diet coke. if it was a person it would be my soulmate. i have perfect shiny white teeth  however i'm one of those annoying hated people who can stuff their face with chips and chocolate and still be a size 10. i blame stress.

Ok, not quite punching it... More like a massage, only a bit forceful... Not sure how to explain that one :s:

I used to get it a lot, almost everynight. Haven't had it in about a year now. I used to put it down to posture (I sometimes sleep with my left leg tucked under my right, at right angles. i.e. my left foot under my right knee :s: ) but it doesn't seem to affect me now.

I also used to get it if I had a lot of exercise during the day, or was really tired. Water balance could definitely be an issue.

I normally get it whilst awake, like in the middle of a badminton game the other week (that was fun trying to play through it  ). I did get it in the night once recently though, woke up thinking something was attacking me lol.

I've got know idea how you're supposed to get rid of it. I tend to just try and clench the muscles, hurts a bit more to begin with then goes away.

A.

I have to jump out of bed and walk around my room hlaf asleep. It's awful and it usually happens at least once again in the same night.

I agree with you about Diet Coke, it is ace. I'm not like you though. You're lucky to be able to keep your figure. On the other hand I have lost 9lbs recently, and I still drank Diet Coke.

Why do people hate Diet Coke so much. Surely it's better than the normal stuff?

Well, "light" cigarettes are "better" than regular ones.

diet coke rules. in fact, i'm going to go to hall now and have three cans with dinner. *thumbs up*

i made it stop, by grabbing my foot and forcing the front part up, so my calf was being stretched. its the prevention that i need, cos it's ruined my left leg for the whole of the day. i just changed out of my timberlands to some sneakers and without the support of the boots, it's killing again. *punches leg*. ow.

I see your point. But seeming as I don't smoke, I can just have more Diet Coke instead

Sooo much worse... all those artificial sweeteners are really not a good idea. Ever. Comparitively sugar is like... broccoli. *shudders*

Why is nothing ever good for you anymore?

I only drink it cos it has less calories.
Ive had that before.

Its horrid. I woke up, jumped out my bed and hopped around the room for 2 or 3 minutes.

Its horrendously painful.
