Should it really be that much of an issue? Right handed people manage to change gear with their left hand after all. Perhaps you should work out with your right arm :p:

lol but changin gear is a lot less strenous than controlling a 1.5ton car as you drive and go round roundabouts and stuff lol

Im assuming the car has power steering. also 1.5tons? That's quite heavy for a car no? :p: A family car is more like 1 ton.

well a classic mini weighs about .7tons and a bmw x5 weighs about 2.2tons so 1.5 seems a fair compromise lol

even with power steering its the err keepin the car in that straight line lol

Maybe us left handers should go and live in the good ol' US of A and take advantage of the benefits of cruise control

I am left handed too - cant I join pleeeaassee

My main problem is that when I am driving and change gear (using my left hand - obviously!) then I cant really steer with my right!! Which is interesting when your going around corners!!! :p:

Probably the best way to get around that problem would be to drive for short periods holding the steering wheel with only your right hand (rest your left on your leg or something). Obviously only do this if it is safe to - little traffic, etc., and only long flowing bends.

Yeah me too. The clicking is awkward if you use it with your left, and the shape is made for a right hand anyway. :frown: I had to learn to use scissors with my right, too.

I wonder why most of the population is right-handed? Is there a gene related to which hand you use? :hmmmm:

At middle school people used to take the mick because I couldn't cut out...and now at uni everytime i'm in a seminar I have to faff about changing the desk around so I can actually write on it, discrimination or what!!

Anyway, I'm glad I found this soc, I'm so joining :p:

It depends on the types of desk the uni provides. I've only ever used proper lecture theatres with tables that go right across the seats (and indeed right across the row of seats). The ones with the table to the side on the arm are the annoying ones, but again it does vary - some are worse than others.

I think my uni only has the desks that go right across the row in one continuous line. However it is annoying when we're all squashed in and I'm surrounded on both sides by right-handers and end up elbowing them!
I'm sorry for ever insulting one of you sinister lot.

(Wonders if anyone gets it  ).

I use my right too. Have tried with my left but it's really difficult!

About the left handed scissors - I cannot use them. They feel really uncomfortable I think.

as i child i was embarassed being left handed seeing all those right handed kids and i taught myself how to use scissors with my right hand coz i had trouble using the left handed scissors however i do paint and write with my left hand.

when i am on the pc i prefer to use the mouse with my right hand yet on my laptop ( i have a built in mouse thing) i tend to mainly use my left hand

btw i am a vegetarian aswell can i join the veggie society too pls:wink:

I used to, but then you learn to adapt, either above or below the line you're writing. I chose below... it seemed easier for me. Biros are handy too.
Reply 795
my friends AND my teachers make fun of my way of writing:rolleyes: i always have to cock my pen forward soooo......

biros ain't handy when you need to push the pen harder than ever. plus, i get the expensive ink ones, cos with biros i lose misplace forgot em easily so if i get the posh ones, i wouldn't DARE or afford to lose em:laugh:
So do right-handed people smudge when writing Arabic/Hebrew, I haven't heard complaints from them :p:

but as a culture you would be taught to write in such a way that you did not smudge it, I would guess.

yeah theres 3 handwriting techniques I know of:

1) the skew hand which looks reall awkward where you twist your hand round & right from the top.

2) Turn the paper round like you

3) Write under the line like me.

Whats everyone else do?

Proud to be a new member of this society!! I write under the line also!
Thanks for adding me.
