Tattoos

I've got a "semi-permanent" tattoo on my back; I went to the tattooists today to ask if they thought it really was semi-permanent. Turns out no, it's not, it's permanent. The woman who did it was an incompetent buffoon and bodged it up, even though I drew an outline for her  Anyway, the tattooists can fix it for me for £35, which is pretty good. Now, the tattoo I have is permanent but slightly faded. This tattoo would be permanent and shouldn't fade.

I'm going to have to get this semi permanent one removed by laser in however many years (when I leave uni probably). In the meantime, I wanted to get the tattoo done properly by a real tattoo artist. However, my mum won't let me. Ok ok, I don't live at home, but I do during vacation, and she will KILL me and hate me forever if I do this without her permission. I think it would be better for me to have a nice tattoo then just get it lasered off when I graduate - then it looks pretty for three years. And it'll be gone regardless.

Anyone have any opinions? Any ideas how to make my mum see the end result will be the same and the only difference is I don't spend the next two/three years with a wonky tattoo?

Nah, you're an incompetent buffoon, not the woman. There's no such thing as a real semi-permanent tattoo.

Tattoos are meant to be permanent. If you're going to get it removed in 3 years time (is that even possible without scarring? someone correct me..) then what's the point? Better still if you were planning to remove it you shouldn't have got one done in the first place.

Just get the Tatoo but dont let your mum see it. Get it somewhere secret.

How am I incompetent? It was advertised as "semi-permanent". Geez. No need to be so rude.

I was planning for it to fade in three years, as was advertised.

If you like the tattoo get it done permanently... I dont see why your worried about your mum your at uni you know! My dad was DEAD against me getting mine but I got it done anyway, and he ended up being OK about it. He just was saying no probably cos he is a bit of a control freak lol
Anyway whats the tattoo like is it cute?

It's a big star outline with three little ones to the right of it. It's really nice and I love it, or I would if it was better drawn! I'd only get it removed because I don't want to have it when I'm wrinkly!

Where is it on your body? And if it's personal, and you like it then you don't have to get it removed. Don't you think that you'll look back and think, hey, I had a really great time when I was younger and this tattoo reminds me of a good time in my life.

It's on the base of my back. I do really like it, but my mum hates it, which is basically what this is about. If my mum didn't care, I'd be at that tattooists getting it sorted and loving it forever. My parents pay my uni fees and I couldn't afford to be here without their support - and I'm not quitting Cambridge on the basis of a scribble on my back.

There's a law that says you can't falsely advertise. Hence an advert for semi-permanent tattoos should be for semi-permanent tattoos. You're not being very helpful or nice so please stop being so rude to me for no reason, thankyou.

Might be a bit too late but just found this website saying that semi-permanent tattoos are a scam... dunno how reliable it is though http://tattoo.about.com/cs/beginners/a/aa032103a.htm

Thirdly, if deep down, you know your parents would be gutted by it, and you don't really want to lie or live with the guilt, you're not going to enjoy it.

She's a grown woman and can make her own decisions. If her parents disagree then surely it's their problem rather than hers.

i'm old enough to go and do whatever i want. even if i lived on the other side of the world i wouldn't do something my mum didn't want me to do, because in the end she knows better!

the tattoo isn't overly wonky. the little stars are messed up; the tattoo artist i spoke to said she'd have to fill them in, so they'd just be little black stars. the larger one could stay as an outline but would have to be made thicker.

the thing is, i don't want to get it lasered now because that will involve spending my savings or my loan or whatever, i'd rather get it done when i'm earning money and can pay for it straight away.

it has faded, so obviously it is slightly "semi-permanent" and the tattoo artist said it might fade in patches. my mum said that i shouldn't get it done again, even by the semi-permanent place, because it might just fade away.

J - two of my most recent ex's were called rich...i dont think they actually were though...however i am going to be rich

Black stars would cost much much much more to get lazered off than black outlines. remember black pigment is one of the more resistant to laser surgery, and the more pigment there is the harder it is to remove. also remember that they usually cant remove all the tatoo and there is usually an amount of scarring after the procedure.
