Hm, that's awesome thanks. Sounds quite encouraging (though obviously not my college, and I'd imagine lots of the missed offers are STEP). Ah well, nothing to be done now.

Yes, I saw that in the Times too. I love it when they publish these lists in newspapers. They're always the same and pretty much predictable, but still I enjoy looking at them.
I wouldn't know what I would choose though. Especially as I've read about 0.01% of them anyway. What would you choose?

Not entirely sure, I wish they'd give some proper criteria. There are books that are very dear to me (eg Catcher in the Rye, The Bell Jar), books that are very beautiful (eg The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, or probably another Murakami, but that's what they've chosen), and books that are important. But I'm not sure which of those is 'the best' and they should really have clarified.

It's also a shame that L'Etranger just doesn't qualify, because that satisfies all three of those, I think, and I'd probably vote for that.

In conclusion, not a clue.

With my noobish and unjustified insight, I would say Peterhouse. Although judging from the prospectus, St Catz seems to have some intense bonding going on.
