I am really surprised and shocked about this. I met Jools at a KCL freshers event as I knew about him from TSR. Just wow.

How tragic. what an awful end to such a young life.

Quite a few people from work and at other banks have expressed their shock.

moral: don't let work consume you, especially in a cut-throat industry such as this. if as an outsider you think that that's easy, remember if you want to get on you'll be working 12hrs a day and need to be putting the effort in. so there's a thin line.

While I don't know why, I wouldn't put this down purely to work. I can't imagine Jools would have done this just over his job.

i) this chap seemed quite keen on his job.

ii) last week he gets into some trouble at work, seems to be at risk of losing his job.

iii) he kills himself.

i somewhat doubt iii) is independent of ii), given i).

alternative hypothesis: it was these harsh words

i've read about 10 online articles, they seem to suggest michael jacksons recent death may be linked. it's very sad, i just can't believe he did this when it appears he had it all.

what a tragedy

edit: there will of course be other things which affected him that noone could understand and may not

The concept of someone who has it all doing something like this is utterly baffling, whether work related or not, and I guess the hardest thing is no-one will ever know, which will make it particularly hard for his parents and friends to come to terms with, I really feel for them, they will wonder why everyday for the rest of their lives, I hope they can eventually find some sort of peace.

Perhaps, though of the bankers I know, Jools was one of the least defined by his job. He did a lot outside.

As Barny says, I guess we'll never know. And that's one of the things I find so hard at the moment.

not many people at deutsche seem to care...

My manager didnt even know lol

there's never a good reason for committing suicide. If I messed up everything, I would just move to Africa or China or something and do something there for people. Given the skills one gains in banking, one could do a lot for the world. killing oneself is just stupid!

RIP. Saw a lot of his posts, and he seemed like a really helpful member. Tragedy :frown:

I only just found out Anjool passed away on my way from work after seeing his picture on the front page of the London Lite! Really shocking news!

I haven't logged into TSR for a very long time now, but I remember how Anjool helped to give me and many others very useful career advice and genuinely seemed like a very nice guy.

I am sure he will be missed by many including the several people he helped on TSR. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

RIP Buddy!

Very sad news. It is really shocking. RIP.

What has been the reaction at Deutsche? I have a feeling this will tarnish their reputation and these events will reflect badly on them. What do others think??

it's caused substantial discussion and mourning among many quarters although obviously the bank is a huge place and not everyone knew Jools personally.

As for tarnishing reputation frankly I don't think anyone at DB who knew him cares. Details aren't 100% clear re investigation etc but I don't think it matters and I don't think it'll have much impact on DB regarding core business.

Irrespective of this just want to express sentiments similar to majority of those here, absolutely crushing news.

This has to be the most naive comment I have read on TSR to date.

I had reflected to myself a week ago that the choice of his new title: 'Brown Patrick Bateman', was a little peculiar, beyond the ironic and into bad taste.

Has anybody else thought about this?

I am a huge fan of the novel and can see the aspirational aspects of Patrick Bateman, but why would anybody want to be CONTINUALLY associated with a depressed, psychopathic, racist, sexist, mass murdering rapist and yuppie snob? Unless he identified with the idea that there was a proundly depressed soul just underneath the veneer of all that success and charm?

I didn't know him, maybe he just had a dark sense of humour. But suicidal ideation can show itself in strange ways.

It is in crushed spirits and with a devastated heart that I have been asked by Anjool's dear father to let everyone know that Anjool passed away this weekend.

It was quite a shock to see the news on the front page of the Evening Standard this morning. I haven't posted here since I was applying to university in 2004 (TSR helpfully informs me my last visit was 36,119 hours ago) but I still remember the debates we used to have then and how freely and generously Jools would dispense kind-hearted advice to those around him.

His death is as regrettable as it is inexplicable. I always admired how much he had achieved in his life - and how in control of it all he seemed. I guess it just goes to show how fragile we all ultimately are.

Rest in peace, Jools.
