you think his punishments extreme? try getting hit with a 2kg metal weight - that guy could have died from his injuries easily so yeah that would be classed as an attempted murder
so you think he is as bad as someone who goes out of their way to buy a gun and starts shooting at someone, or someone who goes into a school with a knife/gun and attemps to kill children?

im not saying the kid deserved it but each and every single 1 of us has a breaking point and it seemed the kid was trying as hard as he could to wind him up, and many other students had been taught by him and praise him for being a fantastic teacher and lovely man.

so no, i dont think he deserevs life imprisionment.

Could anyone tell me why this is being treated as attempted murder rather than assault or something else?

Was he screaming 'THIS WILL HOPEFULLY KILL YOU' as he was doing it or something?
no actually he hit him with a 2kg weight and left him to die

The law doesn't see things by what the victim goes through. Whilst this teacher is being accused of attempted murder, someone can end up dead, and the perpetrator could end up with different punishments depending on whether it was murder or manslaughter.

The kid must have really pushed him anyway, I've seen comments from former pupils saying what a fantastic guy the teacher actually is.
It's hardly an easy time for the teacher coming back from a stroke which is awful anyway, and having to put up with loads of annoying 17 year old kids. I'm not saying what he done was right obviously it wasn't.

so any action that nearly kills someone should be classed as attepted murder by what u have said, because you say it is the result of the action that matters and the situation is irrelevant.

so... a girl is going to get run over by a speeding truck, a man sees this and pushes her our of the way of the truck, but in doing this she falls over hits her head and is left in hospital fighting for her life.

this man should also be charged for attemped murder too, the result is the same, its the mans fault she is left in hospital fighting for her life, the situation is irrelevant according to you.

your argument makes you sound like an idiot.

If you deliberately kill someone in selfdefence when they have tried to kill you first, it is manslaughter. If you kill someone for no real reason, it is murder. The outcome is not necessarily what determines the crime, as you are claiming.

I'm sorry, but why are you sticking up for the kid so much?

We ALL know what the teacher did was wrong, and yes he should be punished, but you seem to think he's some psycho murderer, when in actual fact he's a seemingly great man who's had a terrible few months and been driven to breaking point by a disgusting little boy?
