    What makes this "Ultimate.."
Nothing, generally threads billed as "ultimate" end up anything but.

I just can't understand why someone wants to decide which career path is better?

    Neither, it seems completely infantile.

I'm not disagreeing but do you have a source for this?
No, it's common sense though. Even I know that! :p:

I'm hopefully going to study Medicine in September, and coming from a background where I've known several dentists and shadowed and talked to several doctors, it seems that there is a massive difference in the attitudes Doctors and Dentists have towards their respective jobs.

All of the Dentists I have known have all said they love their job, but they all work primarily for their salary rather than enjoying providing the service they're providing. Some have even admitted this to me :O

Doctors, on the other hand, put up with low wages and long hours for years before they make any kind of money really. Doctors tend to work for the thrill and the enjoyment of saving and improving the quality of lives - the money (for many) is irrelevant.

Recently a scheme was launched where doctors and dentists were invited to go to Africa for several weeks to provide their services free of charge to the population - volunteering. A consultant I shadowed went and had no pay for weeks, but said it was the best thing he'd ever done. my girlfriend's parents (who are both dentists) both turned down the opportunity because they weren't prepared to work for nothing.

Of course this is not a totally representative sample, but it just seems to me that the general attitude of doctors is much more passionate and dedicated than dentists, and for that reason MEDICINE FTW!

If we're going into technicalities surely a dentist is a specialist doctor of teeth? Therefore this thread has no point.

Your original post saying "we need doctors more than dentists" implies they're [wrongly or rightly] more important.

Their reply saying we need more cleaners doesn't follow, as that doesn't relate to the importance of the job. It would make sense if your original post was; "we need more doctors than dentists".

But for the sake of good will, we'll give them this one :shh:

Doing Chemistry, Biology, History and Geography.

As for where I am applying I have no idea.

    Yourself?
    Maths & 3 Sciences.

And somebody give me a list of pros and cons about both and together we will analyse and decide which is better.

I say Medicine, cos the only reason people I know are going into dentistry is for the money. People doing medicine at least pretend they're doing it for some noble reasons. :p:
EDIT: there should not be the "other" option on this poll. What's the use of it? This thread is meant to be asking people to choose between medicine and dentistry...
Anyone going into medicine for the money is clearly an idiot.

If medicine was badly paid, far less people would do it. Most people I know are doing it partly for the money, but partly for other reasons
