i just read a book where a mother murders the person who hurt her son because she doesn't think the court would do justice...

as in, I walk in on a man raping my daughter and I have a knife in my hand, yes I stab him through the throat.

I think i'd do anything I could to protect the people I love, my family, my girlfriend and my close friends.

I don't think i'd do anything unlawful for revenge though... like in the case you've given murder instead of letting the courts deal with it.

I would go as far as I had to to protect those I love, even if it means me dying, being imprisoned. My loved ones mean so much more to me than myself.

I would do anything to protect those I truly love - death, life imprisonment, anything...

However, I'd never get revenge. Once something's done, it's done.

The example you mentioned isn't really relevant; she's not saving her son at all, she's seeking vengeance.
