if you're applying for a modern languages degree, for example modern languages at sheffield http://search.ucas.com/cgi-bin/hsrun...s.run?n=992493 ... how do they know what 3 languages you want to do? do you just state it explicitly on your personal statement*? or put the languages in that further details box when applying, or something else?

*if so, i want to apply french german and ab initio spanish OR swedish (depending on the institute) so my ps won't be as good. may have to decide. mehhh.

sometimes, like at bham for example, you don't actually have to make a final indication of your languages until you actually go to university.

I'd put it into the further details box though. or email them

usually unis abbreviate it to Fr,Ge,Sp. they'll know spanish is ab initio because you have no qualifications in it.

focus on the two you will apply for everywhere in your ps, and place emphasis on what you like about 'languages' rather than any particular languages
