How formal is the graduation and meal?

PS. You can get trench coats in most places; I've seen some nice ones in New Look before

You want something formal enough that you'll feel comfortable, but not so formal that you'll blend in with the graduands.

When I went to my boyfriends graduation and meal, I wore a summery yellow skirt, white vest, a grey cardigan, and smart flip flops. I felt formally enough but not over the top.
