I'm a teenager (17 years old) and it annoys me how most teenagers are associated with partying and drinking and all that. I've got a quite a few friends but most are quite into partying and some of them drinking and so I feel like I can never get that close with them because I just don't like these things.

So my question is - are there still people (a good amount anyway) who don't especially like doing all this? I don't mean locking yourself up in your room and playing games all day because that's not how I am but I just don't like partying or drinking and I feel it's because of this that I can't really socialise with people much.

I really enjoy going out with friends and going to the cinema or something or going out to play some sports - that's all great - but I just generally dislike going to thinks like parties and then getting "hammered" - it's not for me. However, none of the people I know that socialise well, or at least well enough, don't do these things (partying, etc).

I mean I want to be more sociable but I feel like the only way is to go to these parties with really loud music that is really crap and everyone is drinking and that's not for me so how the hell else do I get to know more people? I know there are people like me out there, obviously, but it feels like it's such a small number because I know quite a lot of people (and most have quite different characteristics and all) yet they all enjoy it and because of that I can never feel like I fit in!

I dont mind drinking and having a good time with a few choice friends, but I cant stand big events with lots of people like a ball or a prom *shudders* its just not me; I also dislike those parties where people try and show off by inviting as many people as they can (even if they dont know half the people there). I guess it is all just down to personal opinion, I would much rather play sport or go out with a fwe friends than clubbing (not to say I wont go clubbing, I just wont enjoy it as much as most).

If you are going to uni, you will find someone that is the same to you, it is inevitable as there are just so many people there :yep:

Best of luck Im sure you'll be fine :top:

Me too dude. I just don't like being with a big crowd. For some reason it just makes me uncomfortable and i can't stand being with people drunk out of their minds so i tend to not go to parties and just go to a mates house, get a few mates and play PES 09 late into the night.

I'm not that into drinking/clubbing, and neither are a few of my friends. It worries me when people only do it to look 'cool' or to 'fit in' and 'socialise'. I'm not really sure how you can 'socialise' in a club, which is why it's always such a bizarre concept to me when people said they 'met at a pub and got along really well'...

That's exactly the thing - I might not mind if it was a party with a few friends that I knew but I really dislike the ones with tonnes of people that I don't know.

I have found the ones that are just tonnes of people are easy to avoid, I will sometimes go but just leave early. I am lucky in the sense that my friends aren't huge fans either, so we can go talk amongst ourselves mix with a few people. In that sense it is like we are going with just a few of us but in a busy room. It all comes down to your friends, most of my friends would rather go to the pub with a couple of mates, or stay in and watch a film than go out clubbing.

You didnt answer my first question, are you going off to uni in september, a fresh start and all that.

If I were you I would take confidence in the fact that most people are like you, however alot of people put on a front and pretend they are having a good time just because they think they are suposed to.

Because people talk in clubs and pubs.......that could be the reason, but I dont know.

I've always found that it's too loud to speak in clubs, but fair enough.

Thats what the quiet areas and the bar areas are generally for. :yep: I dont like clubs, mainly due to the oft terrible music and the fact that they are filled with drunken idiots, maybe try a different kind of club or bar to the ones that most people our age visit. I find myself at home mainly in jazz clubs and rock clubs along with the more upscale clubs (usually wine bars during the day, lots of tables and things). Search around a bit and go out, it took me a while to find a decent few clubs that I enjoyed.

The house parties i go to are pretty awsome but that may just be because i know everyone there. I don't mind going to them as i quite enjoy them but if its a party at someones house i don't know and i'm surronded by unfamiliar people then i usually hate it. I like sitting at home with a good book or watching films with a tub of ice cream. But a bit of everthing keeps everyone happy.

I tend to go to the pub and cinema more than anything, I usually go the pub 3ish times a week - drinking, playing pool/itbox, pub quiz. Much better than any club.
