Looked through the threads about Cuba so far, but it's not really got the answers I'm looking for. I'm off to Cuba for a few weeks with family soon and was just wondering how easy it is to just go off and walk into the countryside (i.e. like you could in parts of England) and whether that's recommended. I assume it's pretty safe to wander round the streets of colonial cities by yourself, but apart from cities like Trinidad, Havana, Santa Clara and apart from the white beaches (which I'm sure are gorgeous), are there any other places you recommend visiting? Places where you can roam and explore with interesting landscape would be pretty good.

    Thanks!
