So, I play guitar but I'm not in a band or anything. I'd like to buy some editing/recording software for my laptop but that will let me overlay with samples etc.

I've heard burial uses Sony Soundforge, and thats definately the kind of thing I'm looking for but I've heard some bad reviews. Thom Yorke is credited with 'laptop' on some radiohead albums, which I love, but I'm not sure what software he uses.

    Any ideas?

P.S I'm not that technically savy, although I wouldn't mind spending time learning to use a professional program.

I'd rather pay for something worthwhile.

If Burial does use Sony soundforge, he must have found a creative way of sampling etc as soundforge isn't multi-track. I need something which does multitrack sequencing and live recording.

Adobe Audition should do the job pretty well. It's a bit like SoundForge and Acid Pro all in one (i.e. you've got the editing suite and a tracker sorts of as well), plus a bunch of others. It's really good, I've been using it for a long time while still on my PC. I'm pretty sure it supports VST plugins as well, so it's a really good app with loads of possibilities - at the same time not as complicated as the huge DAWs like Cubase or something. :yep:

LMMS (Linux MultiMedia Studio) is essentially like FruityLoops or Garageband but free. Works on Windows as well despite the name.
