Hi all. Im a 24 year old male from east anglia. Ive just started a new job, but as what always happens, i really deeply start thinking about a career in teaching. This must be a sign that its something i really want to do. Specifically key stage 1-2, 5-11 years old.

The thing is, im worried about the reaction if i went on and did this. It wouldnt be until sept 2010 i could start the course, and then id be 25, 26 that december, so that age this is making it a issue for me. Also finance wise im a bit apprenhensive. But i dont have any large debts or mortgage at the moment. Im also concerned about my Gf's reaction, as ive just started a career in the police as a PC.

I could be qualified in 3 years from sept 2010, and im sure that time will fly. The no gurantee of a jobs is also a bit frightening when id be 28 years old, but then nothing is guranteed i know.

Just wanted some opinions on my predicament, any adivce welcome

Don't let your age put you off doing something you really want to do!

It sounds like you really want to do it, so why not?! That's about the age many teachers I know are, so I say go for it. I hope your girlfriend wouldn't be against you doing something that you seem to have your heat set on?
At the moment (I'm just about to start studying French at Uni) I want to be a Primary school teacher after finishing my degree and though I might change my mind by then, it's something I quite passionately want to do and have done for a long time now. I do worry same as you about the possible scarcity of jobs, especially if this Government scheme about fastracking people into teaching goes ahead, but if you have a real passion for becoming a teacher then hopefully it shouldn't be a problem Good Luck!

All of my primary teachers were well old. You'd be much younger than them even once you have gained your PGCE and started your teaching post.
Were you ever put in isolation at school?
