Hmm as others have said my favourites are mostly in the last century but I'd say
Harry Potter, The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, A letter to a Christian Nation and there's no denying it...Twilight. I hate the books but unfortuantly they will be remembered .

    In no particular order :

The Naming of the Dead - Ian Rankin
The Subtle Knife - Phillip Pullman
The Amber Spyglass - Phillip Pullman
"A Short History of Nearly Everything - Bill Bryson
    The Falls - Ian Rankin
    Sabriel -Garth Nix
    Lirael - Garth Nix
    Abhorsen - Garth Nix
The Golem's Eye - Jonathan Stroud
The Wee Free Men - Terry Pratchett

They may not all be the best pieces of literature in everyone's mind, but I just loved reading them all.

Oh and the God Delusion, just for how it's annoyed religious nutcases

    7. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
    8. The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix

I don't think I've even read 10 novels from this decade, and I expect I'm not alone.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince---> I prefer it over all the other HP books, no not because the film's gonna be released tommorow (!) but because it has a much more darker tone to it than the other HP books and is much more dramatic and action-packed!
    Other than that:

    Angels and Demons-Dan Brown
Behind the Scenes at the Museum-Kate Atkinson
    About a Boy-Nick Hornby
A Long Way Down-Nick Hornby (book about suicide that is absolutely hilarious-normally suicide and hilarity would be an awful combo but Hornby manages to pull it off wonderfully)
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (of course!)

The Name Of The Wind - Patrick Ruthfuss

This was a brilliant book still waiting for the rest of the Kingkiller trilogy.
