Should the cane come back in to schools?

I'm all for being caned, but if some teacher tried to hit me with one of them garden centre rods i'd bloody well beat him... what else would any normal person do? Besides teachers don't know who's to blame a fair bit of the time, would that result in random beatings, or mass beatings? I think the teachers should definitly be more melow and mashed.
